I understand the laws on gambling are quite strict here.
If a game involves thye use of skill or knowledge in deciding the winner, are valuable prizes allowed? Or does it fall under some gambling regulation?
If prizes are allowed, under which conditions?
many thanks

Even predicting winners of a football match by SMS falls under the term 'gambling' in Thailand.

thanks for your reply.
Predicting winners of football matches is gambling. You have no way of knowig for sure nor affecting the end result of the game.
I meant games were the players skill decides the winner. Or like a quiz show, with the winner having to know the answers.

Just watch some Thai games show and you'll probably know the answer.

If I understood you've talked about gambling not about contests or games.

Yes, but, there are always stories in the Pattaya Mail about the boys in brown raiding a card game at a house, confiscating 4 decks of cards, 255 baht and throwing 23 women in jail.

They are serious about these heinous crimes for sure.

thanks for all the input.
I should be more specific to utilise all you knowledge fully.
Can a bussiness organize for example a quiz show or a darts game where the contestants pay to take part, and the winner wins money.
I believe this to be legal in some form, and would like more information regarding under which conditions they can be considered legal. (if any)

I don't know about quiz shows since I am not smart, or darts since I am not ambidextrous..but I do know they have the Gambling Police roaming the fairways of the golf courses to cut down on illicit wagering.

Can't anybody else help out here?

If your talking about simple type games like pool or dart tournments I've seen them in bars, you just keep the money out of site. Dominios and other type games I have seen the police interupt those and take the particpants to the monkey house.

As far as a place designed to house these types of games you can forget it. In pattaya they have contest at various bars for the game similiar to trivial pursut. But most of these are only for the league type of play with no real money changing hands.

Basically the bottom line is no gambling.

Interesting question, 99. I think that a permit of some sort would officialy be required if a public contest was to be carried out. Not sure who the appropreate authority would be, but if no-one here has any suggestions, we can look into it for you...
