In reading through various FR it seems that most brothers go the bar girl or gogo girl route, as opposed to searching out a freelancer. I'm wondering why that is.
In my admittedly limited experience, freelancers have generally worked out much better for a number of reasons. Here are a few:
Gogo girls tend to have a jaded attitude that comes from standing on a stage in high heels for hours on end with a number pinned to their ass or wherever.... many seem to (wrongly) believe they are superstars.... bad attitudes are the norm..... drinks are overpriced in gogo bars and lady drinks are even worse.... beer bars same same, lady drinks are a waste of money.... and then there is the barfine.
On the other hand, freelancers are easy to chat up....you can determine whether they converse well in your language of choice (if you care).... everything is negotiable.... there is no barfine.... they are not confined to a small area and bombarded with regular customers.... the FL girls tend to be happier because they set their own hours and determine where they work and who they go with..... I could continue but it seems there are so many advantages and so few disadvantages to going with a freelancer.
Could any of the brothers enlighten me as to why (aside from possible age or health issues) one would take a gogo or bar girl instead of a freelancer?
(Oh, and I am wondering why it isn't possible for me to post a new topic in the "Girls" section)

There are a good number of threads already dealing with the subject matter on freelancers. But anyway, there is a higher risk of getting stuck with a crooked thief or complete whack job when picking a FL off the street. If a FL rips something off from your room, you'll have a harder time tracking her down on the street unless you get lucky.
Whereas if a girl from a bar rips you off, all you have to do is go back to the place you barfined her, speak to the mamasan, and the girl will usually get an earful or straight-up sh*tcanned. Plus you may also get a refund on your barfine.
Now personally speaking, I get girls/LBs from the bars AND the streets. And sure, you can have just as much fun from a FL as you can a BG safely if you use some common sense such as ensuring you don't leave any valuables laying about. Useage of your hotel room's safe as well as keeping your bags locked are two key ways of making sure that you do not get screwed over by a FL or BG.
Utilization of the forum's search engine will yield many many more tips and experiences about freelancers.

In the course of my life I've had hundreds of p4p girls, all over the world, and maybe I'm just lucky but have never once had any of my possessions stolen. Back home in the City of Angels I am accustomed to dealing with streetwalkers of a much more vicious and threatening variety than anything to be found in LOS, including the beachfront in Pattaya. My radar is always up, I never leave anything of value laying around, and when in southeast asia I don't go for girls with tattoos, who drink heavily, or who smoke cigarettes, because there are plenty of available ladies who are free from those bothersome vices.
In the US, my instincts have been honed in neighborhoods where you take your life in your hands by even entering after dark, so the prospect of petty thievery from a TG really doesn't faze me and I don't need to go crying to mamasan if the experience didn't fulfill all my expectations.
Of course that's just me and your mileage may vary. Maybe for some the tradeoff in quality of experience and bang for the buck is worth the perceived extra margin of safety..... in fact this must be the case, or go go bars wouldn't be in business anymore.
As far as using the search engine, I am sure there are plenty of existing threads covering virtually any topic one could imagine, but please forgive my ignorance in starting a topic that has already been discussed.... I will do a search on the topic of freelancers and try not to make the same mistake in the future.

It may be unclear whether freelancers or gogo dancers are better on average. But IMO, gogo dancers are definitely much closer to the average. Freelancers are much more likely to be at the extremes (good and bad) in terms of quality and safety. ("Safety" includes all of thievery, getting drugged, STDs, police sting, con game, blackmail, psycho bitch,....)
Some people, like myself, prefer a little more certainty, knowing that we may be missing out occasionally on the high end. Also with gogo dancers it's much easier to keep things on a purely professional level.

but what is a Freelancer?
i have met Girls after closing time in their Bars and taken them home.
are they a Freelancer?,looking for a Man late at night?
just because their Bar has closed does this make them a Freelancer if they go out looking for a soulmate afterwards?
or is a Freelancer classed as someone who is a Nurse/Student/office worker who you spend a Month taking her out before you get into her knickers?
many of the above may not work in the P4P Scene but eventually they give it to you.
you may think you have cracked it with a Girl who took a LONG time to put out,but how do you know she is not doing it all the time when you are not around?
i went with 1 Girl (more than once) who I thought was a GTG/Freelancer and thought I had done well getting her in my bed.
but her answers to my questions eventually made me think she was more experienced in the ways of going back to a room for a f_ck every now and then.

BG with the face of an angel worked bar in Pattaya She would find out if you were leaving the next day and if you were she would rip you off.
Guy would go to the cops and as long as the guy was in town they would investigate. You leave the investigation stops as the cops realize you will not return to prosecute.
As soon as the BG ripped you off she would return to the bar and barfine herself for a week or two till the heat blows over. Mamasan could care less if you got ripped. Angel had lots of lady drinks and offs. Bar made good money off her.
Moral of the story. Use the hotel safe. Have the hotel check ID and ask them to call your room if she tries to leave.
I always make the BG take a shower first, I lock my wallet up except for the money I'm going to give her in my big luggage. Plus I try to book hotels with in room safe.

I think this is an exceptional case. But even then the punter still has the recourse to tell his sad tale on the net and hopefully tarnish the reputation of the bar at least a little bit, since they well deserve it.

Yes, I definitely ran into some unwanted stretch marks a time or two on FL's. Since then I make it a rule to check out their belly somehow before deciding it is GTG.... if they resist having the front of their shirt lifted, sorry.... NEXT!
Also, I make sure they leave their ID with hotel security, do a quick check of the room before leaving, and always accompany them downstairs to get their ID afterwards. I shower very quickly (only one area really needs washing!) with the door open, and my luggage is always hidden in the closet across from the bathroom. Passport, larger quantities of money, and traveller's checks are always in the hotel safe. I don't even leave the $20 Rolex laying around -- like my granddaddy used to say, why make a thief out of an honest (wo) man?

There are many F/L that work at bars or MP's. A few of the fav's from Baron's are known to hang at popular falang nightspots.
I don't believe there is a rule of thumb that works accurately for all. Personal choice seems to always dictate.
F/L just don't decide one day "oh, I'll go hang at this bar or corner to make some money". They got the knowledge from someone or somewhere else. Probably got fed up or bounced from an establishment or two and decided to cut out the middle man. In this example, they are way ahead of the rest of class in street smarts.
As for safety, you never know when or how it will happen but eventually I think everyone gets ripped off. I thought I always was pretty careful but the one time I left my watch unattended - ZIP - Gone in 60 seconds. Maybe I had a few too many that night but like other brothers point out, if the girl worked in a bar, I could least have 1/2 a chance to track her down. I might not have gotten the watch back but at least would have had some satisfaction in confronting her.
Bars also allow you to strike up some rapport with mamasans. They can sometimes be your best friend or worse nightmare. In the former, they will tell the girls to behave and give good service. In the latter, they probably share in the take.
I guess I would opt for the bar. The girls there don't all have tat's, smoke or drink like fish. But for some guys that is a good sign. For others not. I like to see if the girls have many friends in the bar and to see how they are treated by the others. The hard core BG's very generally seem to be the loudest, most bold of the crew. They might be good in the hay or might not... usually depending on their mood not the customers.
Over time, if you visit the same place, you see many new faces and turnover. It also lets you see who the hard cores are.
