I always wondered how you can sing and stand up for the poor people and drive yourself around in a 10 million baht Mercedes.....

Doc, it's easy if you're a hypocrite! Very easy to be a bleeding heart when you're rich, or to be a Gucci socialist, sobbing crocodile tears for all those poor people. So this "do as I say, not as I do" syndrome is pretty much universal isn't it? Brilliantly satirised by George Orwell in Animal Farm.

Dr. Love Thanks for the helpful clarification. My poster on the infoexpert site gave a similar response, that it was located in the Suanluang district, but then added"...which is located in the far western suburbs." Any advice on Rao-sen would also be appreciated. the infoexpert poster guessed that it was located on Sen Road, which I am not familiar with. In many ways, Carabao draws parallels to the Clash. Back in the eighties, Carabao music was banned by the gov't and they and fans were harassed at shows. I can even remember around 5-6 years ago, the Carabao stall at Chatuchak had a couple Thai military outside it staring down customers. In later years, their style changed from the "songs for life" to the lighter som-cha. Kind of how the Clash changed with "Combat Rock." I can't think of any examples in all of rock, of a band that was founded on principle, got successful and gave all their money away to stay on principle. Even Joe Strummer, who quit the Clash because of fights around principle, lived off a pile of money.

Then you didn't see Carabao, the band. It's most likely that you saw him then at his place at Rama III. He usually performs there in a sort of a jam session. One time Steven Seagal joined them there.

I don't think the Clash were ever really about giving all their money away... social commentators (that sounds very poncey), certainly and very happy to promote the punk ethos of getting off your arse and doing something for yourself, but not giving all their cash away.

Yeah, it was like a jam session. that was probably the place, I just gave the taxi an address the hotel wrote for me in thai, so not sure were I was.

I don't know what you've been listening to, but Caraboa got heavier on the Sahm Cha album, granted their recent stuff basically sucks, but back then they were awesome and it's Sahm Cha, a type of dance

True enough. I was mainly responding to the comment about Ad's Mercedes. It doesn't seem fair to knock him, since nobody else is giving their money away either.
I don't know what you've been listening to, but Caraboa got heavier on the Sahm Cha album, I've only been trying to catch up on their old albums for the past few years, and with bootlegs and all, it's sometimes hard to figure what's what. But, it has seemed that the "sahm cha" has more lilt than rock edge. Kind of like Jimmy Buffet music. And in terms of subject matter, songs about fat chicks seem lighter than the old stuff that was getting them banned.
