YEARS, oh hell, a DECADE ago, pre-skytrain, had nothing to do one early afternoon. Winter (ha,ha), started walking from Soi 15... stopped around 70. Why? Because it was there!
Just wanted to see what was in the next block, how far I could go. Once you get out of the lower Suk area, turns "native" pretty quick (at least back then). Did I see anything REALLY interesting... no, but then again, it was all interesting...
Took a taxi back.

I'm often surprised by how few farangs make it down that far, even today, lol! Ask any b/g where she lives and she'll describe something down thataway or up Ramkhamhaeng way. The street stalls are loaded at 2 am with gazillions of these ladies, enjoying a late night dinner before packing it in. Quite a sight from the taxi on the ride home.

You'd lose. In my naiveté, I had an address for my 1st "girlfriend" in BKK: Suk, Soi 70. Thought I'd just walk down and pay her a visit. Didn't realize when I started the non-uniformity of distances between soi's. Then it became "could I really do it?" I did make it to the shack where she lived, and yes, it took me HOURS... Like I said, a decade ago. I was young and naive.

You have some energy....for those who don't know....soi 70 is close to being the last soi before the Bang Na - Trat highway....on the odd side we are talking sukhumvit 103.

I do remember having trouble crossing on an overpass right at the end - train tracks (maybe) underneath... no sidewalk on the overpass, not pedestrian friendly... thinking WTF am I doing? There were NO people around that looked like me (insane, SWEATY falang), even INSIDE the taxi's. But once you start... you just have to finish.
Funny, now when DRIVING down Suk, to see all the development... but nothing like walking to give you a feel of the city.
I don't know, whatever you were betting.

that sounds like the overpass at On Nut.....soi 77...combined canal, overpass and freeway entrance.......soi 70 is miles past that point....

So you're having me re-live the whole experience. For sure I was in triple digits on the odd numbered side. I remember:
1. Make it to Soi 70
2. Um, this is not going so well. OK, triple digits on Suk
3. Damn, I'm tired, but... I must be close, something like high 60's on even side, can't give up now.
4. To admit my guilt (and naiveté), I know I made it to Soi 70 as I left her a note in her apt (shack's) mailbox. Which must have really CONFUSING for the current tenents - see, I was under the impression that bg's took long term leases.
5. Only thing I remember was: "I did it; NOW where is a f*cking taxi so I can get back to the Nana Hotel and take a shower.
Anyway, maybe NEXT life, I'll have to repeat, but hopefully, I've learned from this one.
