From what I can gather, its a Thai slang word thats used by Thai`s, the best person to ask is LY as he was living in the Burbs and thats when I think he came across it, as he tells me.
GIK = " f*** buddy ", some one to f***, no strings attached,refered to by both sexes.

There are rules to being a gik, the commandments which I found translated below. I have the Thai version if anyone wants it.
The 10 commandments of being a "Gik"
1.it is forbidden to be jealous, but it's ok to be worried about each other
2.you can have each other, but you do not belong to each other
3.you have no right to demand for anything more from your "gik" (ie, you cannot ask him/her to do things for you that you'd ask your girl/boyfriend to do. Such as demand your gik meet with you today).
4."giks" may change their relationship (ie, become steady), but if they do not, you're forbidden to be sad about it.
5.Do not mix your "giks" with your friends. keep them seperate.
6.If a "gik" wants to start a serious relationship with someone else besides you, then you are not to shed tears over the matter."
7.there's no need to take care of each other more than called for, because your just "giks" not boyfriend/girlfriend
8.There's no limit to the number, sex, age, or status of your "giks."
9.giks are secondary to your boyfriend/girlfriend
10."giks" are just "giks." Nothing less, nothing more. "giks" must know their place.

Thanks, fellows. The collective knowledge of the board has spoken. BTF is the best - there may never be a final answer on the gik (or GIK?) debate, but I've learned one thing: I've got to find me one.

My question for the highly experienced giksperts among us is how to get them into bed if you want to use a short time or love motel rather than your own place for reasons of gf or scheduling or other.
Some girls have their own place and that may be an option. Many, maybe most?, girls are familiar with the rongraem chua krao or love motel etc because they've had to use them with previous Thai boyfriends (can't just wake up Mom and Pop in the middle of the night coming home to do a little humping). I speak Thai pretty fluently but still find this a bit embarrassing (maybe I'm not Don Juan) to engineer. Not sure how those Thai teens do it! 555 Would welcome any advice or reflections or experiences (or scripts! 555) from those who do it.
In the past I've gone so far as to rent a hotel room on a day off for a whole day and during the afternon date tell her I was thinking of moving into the room, or had moved there, and wanted her to help me check it out. Once the door was closed, things took the natural course. But I think it's a ridiculous and clumsy seduction method; margin for error as well. And I don't always have all day--maybe just a few hours. Got any better ideas?

For the other guy. I don't think Gik are too keen on being treated like ST girl with ST Hotel action. It would be safe to say that they like to be treated like you would treat a friend....with privledges. At least that is how all mine work.

Thanks Baquawn. Yes, not like a ST girl. But by the very nature of some giks there must be alternate sexual locations besides one's own place. All those ST hotel in BKK are not used exclusively for prostitution, as we know. Thai couples use them when they can't (for whatever reason) use their own home and bed. So I'm looking for ways to use them with my giks as well. Probably just includes building up a foundation of trust and desire.

To be sure the GIK understands that I don't want them to be my GF I always tell them which 3 things I won't say to them:
1. I love you
2. I want to stay with you (live together)
3. I want to marry you (and have a family together)
Optionally you can also include:
4. I don't want to meet your family (mother, father etc)
5. I'm not gonna sponsor you, but will cover expenses for food, drinks, transport etc when together ok ?
Not always received with great joy by the GIK, but very effective. If they like sex and party more then a relationship they will come back !
I had dozens of GIKS already, at the moment still meeting 2 of them on a regular basis:
