Can anyone tell me where I can accomplish this in BKK? All I have is a passport, credit card or cash and an USA driver's license...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

There has been some stuff on this before, if you use the Search Engine you should be able to find it!

You can certainly rent Harley's and Harley Clones in Phuket and Samui plus a full range of Japanese Sports Bikes. How well some are maintained is another matter!

I have raced dirt bikes and ridden big bikes throughout the US, and yes - rode ONCE in LOS. But after far too many close calls on my first day's outing in Phuket, all from totally irresponsible local auto drivers, ending in an accident and only then learning that "the largest number of farangs hospitalized in LOS are motorcycle renters" (Phuket Gazette)...I'm resolved...NEVER AGAIN in LOS.

On crutches for the last two weeks vacation there.

But there's humor in anything - I was able to pick it up and limp in to a hole-in the-wall clinic, which adjoined - you guessed it - a motorcycle repair shop.

If you still do it, be prepared to have to leave your Passport as security, AND to pay cash on the spot for any damages - if you want your passport back.

I have ridden everything from 100cc "girly bikes" too 400cc dirt bikes and the usual large jap copies of Harleys etc all over Thailand. Phuket, Samui,Koh Chang and even the outskirts of BKK. Although Thai driving styles are quite different from what I am use to ( i.e there are no rules) I am yet to have any form of accident.
One very funny thing occured in Koh Chang after renting my bike and having the owner show me the small bits of damage on the bike I returned said bike 5 days later,,,he looked at the bike, looked at me,, looked at the bike and with a huge look of amazement said " AHH why you no accident!!!!"

Krikey! Be very careful when renting a bike in Thailand. My experience was that many Thai drivers flout even the most basic rules, such as driving on the right side of the road. Very dangerous indeed.

For all your motorcycle info regarding Thailand and SE Asia go to this site.

http://gt-rider.com/

On the message board all your questions have been asked and answered. Everything about thai license and registration issues, renting, etc.

Here is another link to every motorcycle shop in BKK to include GPS coordinates. Mostly for Buying a bike, or service, or parts.

Pattaya is the place for you.

I hired 600cc Honda Racing bike (CBR) in 2004 and 900cc chopper in 2005.

You can deposit your passport but not suggestive because you also can deposit money. Last year, I deposited 2K for 900cc chooper and got back when I returned the bike. I only used the rental shop just opposite Apex.

In beach 1, some rental shops have bigger bikes such as 1100cc, nakid style, CBR, and so on.

In pattaya, it is quite safe but you have to watch your back because some crazy farangs accelerate his bike to the limit without watching the traffic flow. In 2004, I saw one crazy white guy almost crashed a thai guy riding schooter. He was fxxking insane and if he crashed him he wouldn't have any way to survive.

So, go to Pattaya and hire a bike.
Before you take off be sure to check your bike condition.
Watch your back then you can enjoy your biking.

Cost? 350B ~500B a day. HAGGLE
