Quote: from cocoroso on 3:14 pm on Feb. 27, 2006 Pattaya is the place for you. I hired 600cc Honda Racing bike (CBR) in 2004 and 900cc chopper in 2005. You can deposit your passport but not suggestive because you also can deposit money. Last year, I deposited 2K for 900cc chooper and got back when I returned the bike. I only used the rental shop just opposite Apex. In beach 1, some rental shops have bigger bikes such as 1100cc, nakid style, CBR, and so on. In pattaya, it is quite safe but you have to watch your back because some crazy farangs accelerate his bike to the limit without watching the traffic flow. In 2004, I saw one crazy white guy almost crashed a thai guy riding schooter. He was fxxking insane and if he crashed him he wouldn't have any way to survive. So, go to Pattaya and hire a bike. Before you take off be sure to check your bike condition. Watch your back then you can enjoy your biking. Cost? 350B ~500B a day. HAGGLE
Just some thoughts. I strongly suggest you DO NOT give these people your passport. Offer to make a small cash deposit. If the salesman insists on your passport, walk off and don't look back. Cocoroso's statement about it being quite safe could be misleading. Pattaya is extremely dangerous for bike riders. The traffic is insane and the emergency services are not very rapid. You can be the best driver in the world but you will be surrounded by people that do not know the rules of the road or how to drive what they are on. Another suggestion is to get vacation travel insurance to cover you when/if you have your accident. As Elmer Fudd would say...."Be wery, wery careful."

ExpatChuck. That's why I say watch your back. I've never deposited my passport but I saw many passports in his waist wallet (about 10? or 15 passports) so I realized it would be safe, but always better not to take any risk so I suggested him to deposit money.
