Just returned from my first trip to LOS - first of many, I hope, and thought I'd add my two cents worth. I stayed in the Sukhomvit area for a week, half being in a cheap hotel a little ways down Soi 1 which I will profile elsewhere in this forum, and did some night crawling back and forth from Soi Cowboy to the NEP area, and I never felt unsafe; once we came upon an Asian type with no shirt on and a broken bottle in his hand staggering around near Clinton Plaza, but it was quite crowded at the time and we were past the spot so quickly I never really gave it a second thought. I think this area of Bangkok is probably safer than a lot of large North American cities, as there are so many farang tourists around.
