Thailand is a colorful, vibrant country with a rich culture, and with lots to see. Get a Lonely Planet guide - you'll find there's stuff to do and see around BKK even for the most jaded individuals.
There's a lot more to the LOS than just the sex scene (OK - I have to admit that the ladies are the strongest incentive for me to keep returning!) But if you go just for the nightlife, then you are missing out on quite a bit.

I tend to take it for granted that people know all that but of course that's not true, so I'm really glad GP said so, and in a way kind of embarassed that I didn't: Of course he is absolutely correct. That amazing first time I had here, was by no means all about the Nightlife: In that 15 month period I saw every region of the country, spent time in a Bhuddist retreat, lived in a rural village, learned a language and studied Muay Thai; amongst other things.
Believe it or not, up until I got to Hong Kong, prior to coming to LOS, I didn't even know about BKK nightlife. (It wasn't well known in US in those days unlike Europe, especially amongst teenagers. I was 19, don't forget.) I had a ticket to come here for the Bhuddism, Muay Thai and the beaches.
That's not to say I didn't go nuts in Patpong or that I regret doing so...
