I took the BTS shuttle Friday night and no coupon was needed.  Actually, I did not see anyone using any coupons for the BTS shuttle that I was on.

The river ferry is 15 baht for any one stop.  The combination of BTS (Saphan Taksin station) and river ferry (Tha Sathon) is the best (no traffic) and cheapest way to get to and from the Grand Palace, Wat Po and a number of sites along the river.

There's also a private company (@ Tha Sathon) offering river boat shuttles with unlimited stops along the river for 75 baht per day.

Maybe it has been changed or the bus driver didn't want to confront you.

The coupon system was introduced because so many Thais saw the shuttle as a free way of getting around ....

I've never had a problem and never had a voucher.

I presume they don't think we'd use it as a free way to get around.....although I have once (convenient, possibly more than free...but it helped)

Took the free shuttle bus from the Phloen Chit BTS station to the Hotel Conrad.  It was rainning, otherwise, I would have walked.

Mr Alan
I consider the BTS Skytrain to be the highest standard of transportaion in BKK. On the BTS, I never had a bad experience, never got caught in traffic, never had a problem getting the driver to understand where I wanted to go, never worried about what the fare would be, never had to pay a tip, never pestered to get massage at Cupid, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Mr Alan
You never got caught in bad traffic while in a cab?  Obviously the BTS doesn't go everywhere. I take the BTS to the closest point and then a cab from there (if it's too far to walk).
