No no no... You drop off the bags in your room then run onto the Suk for a couple of cold beers and start scoping out the talent for the night. If by some chance you are able to get to the hot spots before the bars start to close for the night, then you run to NEP or SC for a cold one and scope out potential talent. Ah...the sight of the meat market letting out is quite the sight to behold...especially if you're munching away at one of those delicious Nana Burgers. Of course none of this applies if you're going to Pattaya right after your plane arrives. In which case you have your driver stop at a 7-11, pick up a couple of cold ones for the ride and then check out the freelancers after checking in to your hotel. 79 days!

Kurtnilsen, I have just come across this thread. Please don't think I'm trying to flame you here,I have enjoyed the amusing replies, but as one newbie who had all his luggage stolen by a yellow and green taxi on my first trip, I think you should have a Rule 7.Prepare yourself for two days of running (and I do mean running) around BKK from your embassy to a photo shop back to your embassy. Then you can take the short walk as it was descibed to me (2 miles) to the Thai immigration and spend the better part of an afternoon with all the other foreigners who lost their passports, to get a replacement of the little card and stamp the nice man at the airport clipped to your passport.Luckily (for want of a better word) for me I lost my luggage two days before I was dues to return home, and I had hooked myself up with a TG who will be a friend for life. She showed me where the embassy and all the other places I had to go were and even put me up for a couple of nights.Amusing as your thread is I would urge any newbie who reads it to disregard points 2-6.Take a taxi by all means, there has been more than enough advice without me adding to the debate.Get checked in to your hotel, SSS,relax then venture out and explore (Eden club would be a good place to start if you stying in Nana).Don't over complicate things. If this is your first trip the chances are you don't speak any thai so asking someone to unlock your phone and getting bugus cards printed is going be a challenge to say the least. Good luck.

Having been to LOS on average 3 - 5 times a year for 2 - 3 weeks I think some of the suggestiions here will lead a newbie to have BIG problems. I believe there are basically 3 general types of visitors to LOS 1. Returning singles and newbies 2. Families First time or returning 3. Backbackers As I am in the first I will concentrate on my advice for us. My flight arrives around 9:30AM so I'm lucky I am arriving at the beginning of the day. Having got the "airport admin" out of the way I exchange money at the airport. the rate is almost as good as anywhere else and I am not one to roam round to find the best rate. Next go outside and join the taxi que, only once have I gone up stairs to arrivals and grabbed a taxi there, the normal que was huge and no taxis, make sure the meter is on, most hotels on Sukhumvit about 200 - 250 Baht with expressway. Hotel admin out of the way Lock your valuables in the safety deposit box or safe and having had a shower off to my favorite hair saloon. Not in any special order and some together haircut shave manicure pedicure foot massage ear clean shampoo The time in the chair helps to relax the body after the flight Then upstairs for the massage and the pipe to be cleaned. The next best thing is a visit to Edens, my saloon is almost next to soi7/1. I am always a pig on the first day and will usually take at least 3 for this trip to heaven. Having blown away several times its now time to feed inner man and a trip to chequers or jools on soi 4 for the full monty satisifies the inner man. If close enough a short walk back to the hotel to walk off the food and then 3 - 4 hours sleep in preparation for the evenings entertainment have an alarm clock or have reception give you a call. Some hotels even have the facility to allow you to set your phone for a call. OK some serious tips. Always make sure the meter is on in a taxi if not tell the driver if he wont put it on tell him to stop and get out. There are plenty of taxis that will use the meter. Keep a copy of your passport and visa page and a business card from your hotel on you at all times and lock your passport in the safe/box Dont carry lots of money with you just enough for your trip out. Spread it round your pockets. If you have to carry a wallet then carry it in your front pocket. Contrary to what has been said never bother to ask a taxi to wait for you in the greater Bangkok area and NEVER leave a taxi with your luggage even for a quick visit to a 7/11 but if you must then take the taxi number. There are enough taxis even when it rains. NEVER allow a tuk tuk driver take you anywhere except where you want to go and NEVER let a taxi driver persuade you to go to a massage parlour, he will get 500 Baht upwards for taking you there and you will end up paying that. My only other "planned" event is to be at the airport to catch my flight back to work. Things to do during your stay Visit temples Shop MBK/Pantip Plaza Trips out of bangkok River Kwai, Snake farm, Tiger Santuary, Weekend market, Patpong night market/bars/shows, NEP and of course my favorite Cowboy. MASSAGE
