JA, think you are closer to the truth... But, it is a group of investors and/or families. There are many crosses between those groups and families. They might not be the same individuals but surely related by ties.

There is a lot of rumors regading this flying around and have been for a long time. HEard long time expats saying that these rumours have been around for many years. However you never know when or if they will be realised if they ever will be.

Suk 10 was teared down since there was no leases and had not been for a while. Or rather, the barowners thought they had leases but the comapny they leased from was not the owner of the land. Asoke corner beerbars there was no leases paid in 9 or 10 month. They just waited until it would be closed, and just before some of the owners mentioned that they didnt really expect that it would be closed. It did however mid december.Beerbars between soi 13 and 15 closed in april or so.

Heard many talking about NANA closing. But I just dont get why. Many say that Landmark, Marrior and Majestic grande want NANA closed. Here some say owners of these hotels are involved in owning NANA as well. And then there is a lot of rumours that say that these hotels actually lobby for LONGER open hours in NANA.

Whats true is something I dont really know. But one thing I sincerely doubt is that NANA would go down for make a new big mall. There is too many already on lower sukumvit. And then there is this small little reason. The hotels in lower sukumvit have around double prices compared to hotels just 1 or a couple kilometers away. This is due to concentration to lower sukumvit.

And there is NOT families that are the dominant tourist group in lower sukumvit, nor the ones who stay at these 4-5 star hotels. Families goes to beaches or some island or so. With just an sightseeing in the red light districts. If NANA will be taken away, there will be nothing there to see no more. Its the relative closeness of NANA and SC that have made lower sukumvit. And the plethora of beerbars that have sprung up in between.

If someone would be intrested in a new mall, then soi 10 area is still undeveloped after 2.5 years just beeing there. Also between soi 8 and 6 there is a larrge construction that havent been built on in many many years. Just standing there and I guess from the crash in -97. So there is several places to build malls on other than NANA and frankly lower suk already have too many of them.

NANA is a big part of whar make suk a target for many people. Malls doing great business with tourists who take their temporary GF for shopping. And closing of NANA would see a migration of tourists which in turn would make the hotels around there lose out bigtime as well as all the businesses around there who actually have based their business on current situation.

Considering the teamoney paid for NANA area, then I hardly would think the owners could get more money from the lease in ANY other business that would be setup. Not to mention that with NANA gone, there would not be much business to speak of anyway.

So I have a very hard time see NANA go away for a very long time. The only that could make that is some puritan or something like that who is prepared to lose a lot of money close it down, and also gain the hartred from all hotels and businesses around lower sukumvit. And considering many of the people around lower sukumvit, I for one would NOT want to have them dislike me with intense.

This whole thread was started with a question about Bus Stop bar closing in September. Bus Stop will indeed be having some renovations carried out which will result in the bar becoming smaller (due to expansion of one of the properties behind it - Bus Stop will be shortened to approximately the level of where the restrooms currently start). However, the bar will not be closed permanently -in fact I think it might even be operating during the renovations - and nothing else will change - Bus Stop will retain the same street front site on soi 4.

I was under the impression the people owning NEP were the ones that own Amari hotels and Sheraton. Didn't know they own Landmark as well.

Hotels are individually owned with different shareholders. The Amari group are a Hotel management company not Hotel owners. They also manage the City Lodge & Inn and St. James's hotels. The individual Amari managed hotels all have different shareholders. The Amari Boulevard, Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit and Westin happen to be owned by the same family, the Narulas. They do not own the Landmark or NEP.

It's so easy to keep a rumor like this going with the things that have been happening in the NANA area, the new zoning issues, Boss Hogg leaving very lucrative business's, the listing for sale of the NANA hotel, identifying NANA as a possible terrorist target, the list just goes on, and on.

The same rumors are floating around about SC also, closing of the beerbars, zoning, major hotel going up on the corner, same kind of list.

I have no clue at all if the closing rumors are true, or not, but I was advised not to buy in either of these areas. I was also offered a very lucrative deal if I could find a property in the patpong area........lol

Just my fuel for the rumors...............lol
