TU: I know, but how do you answer the question..."What about prescription drugs?" my answer might have been..."What about them?" Thats why I just said YES! to his second question and NO! to his third. I could have said...UTFSE!...but I didn't. See what a nice man I am?

Quote: from Mr Daddy on 2:57 pm on Nov. 19, 2005 I was told (by my fathers boss) that Thailand used to publish the amount of foreigners they executed for drug offences in the papers. Apparantly amnesty international started pressuring them, saying that they couldn't keep shooting 500 tourists per year. The government said "OK" and stopped publishing the figures. It's also worth remembering that pot stay's in your blood for anything up to a month. One drag of a spliff on the beach of a far away island could get you imprisoned in Bangkok four weeks later. I was too scared to go to a club for the first 5 weeks I was here in case I got piss tested.
Have they actually executed people caught with minimal amounts of drugs?? I would imagine a few hundred baht to the arresting officer would do the trick. Also, are these piss test raids occuring anywhere except night clubs? I mean have police actually raided gogos or say Angels??

Sorry if I asked questions that have been asked before. I am a Newbie. I am planning a trip to BKK in a few weeks and I don't want any problems with the man. What threads exist on this forum that have discussed such issues?

Great story but completely untrue 500 a year.....Thailand has NEVER actually executed a Western foreigner....maybe some other asian ones....but never a Westerner....so 500 a year in just absolute nonsense.

THailand has and will continue to execute western foreigners who have been caught with just a small amount of a class 1 drug <It used to shot people but know have a choice. most chose leatheal injection >the U.S gov. for one is very happy if their people are kiiled who are connected with drugs i.e get caught, call the ambassador and he will come down asap and kick the chair out from under u as they put a rope around your neck.Do not deal, take or even joke about drugs in Thailand, it is not funny. If you take medicine be sure u have a copy of doctors note when u are drinking or just walking around bec, if u dont and are tested u might spend 120 in jail in lucky and the rest of your life if not where everyone wants to be your proctologist.P.S the offfical Thai police report last year said that more than 1300 people were killed by the thai police in drug related cases bec, the police did not want to fill out all the paper work if they catch u and bring u in, easier just to shot your sorry ass.

Stu, It is fine to make these statements but as Yurune points out, where is your evidence. To the best of my knowledge, there has not been one single farang executed for drug dealing or drug use in Thailand over the past 10 years. If you believe there has kindly show me one URL that proves your point. As a 'general rule' farang caught using drugs for recreational purposes suffer a 'fine' and a warning. This is a general rule of thumb for say farang caught by 'piss testing' in clubs for instance. Another rule of thumb says that probably 90% of farang who actually deal drugs in Thailand get caught and suffer much more severe punishments. If they are lucky they pay say a Bt1m fine, get deported and blacklisted. If they are less lucky they rot in a Thai jail for several years. But lets be clear, Thailand is more relaxed about drug use than somewhere like Indonesia, where there are many farang in jail for possession/rescreational drug use. The implication that farang are regularly executed for smoking a joint or popping an 'E'is totally absurd.

2 acqaintances of mine tested positive in a police raid in Pattaya a couple of years ago. After a couple of days in jail and a brief court appearance both were released on Baht 40,000 bail. Strangely they were on an immigration stop list but their passports were not taken away. One decided to do a runner over the Malaysian border (pre troubles of course). It cost him Baht 100,000. Naturally he can never come back. The other decided to sit it out. The downside to this was the year and a half which it took to come to court and the constant reporting to the police, court bail renewal appearances, etc. This didn't bother him because his business was through the internet. But anybody with a job to go to (like the other guy) would have been f***ed. When it did come to court he was fined and deported for committing a criminal offence. I assume that he can also never come back. Neither of them did jail time (other than the initial couple of days which in itself I believe was horrific) But please note this was for testing positive, not possession or dealing. Edit in: Stu: If you are talking about possession of a significant quantiity which could be construed as dealing, I agree with you up to a point. If you are talking about testing positive you are wrong. As for executing westerners, you are completely wrong. When was the last time a non-thai (let alone a non-asian) was executed? Haven't you read the books written by these men and women who spent their lives rotting in Thai jails? Why weren't they executed? You don't do your position any justice by mis-stating the facts in this way.
