I ran into a english begger on soi3 /suk. It sucks to be able to leave your home country, and not keep it together enough to stay off the streets. I pity him, but no money. He is responsible for his own situation. I give to beggers home and away in general. I have some to give, so do. I GOOD MAN! A TG I met gives to the Christian society to help the blind sponsored by HM, and other charities. And she doesn't have a pot to piss in! Yes it is a thai thing!

Several points...
1. With the exception of Taiwan, in all the countries I have visited, I encountered beggars.
2. As much as I tried not to, my heart goes out to the crippled, kids, elders, and women with kids. I usually try to keep coins and small bills handy so that I can donate without having to stop.
3. Walking on Suhkumvit one evening, I came across a middle-aged female farang with two kids. I didn't give her anything because I felt it could be a scam. Perhaps I should have given her the benefit of doubt.
4. On my last night in BKK, with only a few hours left before my flight home, I was handing out larger amounts. My BG was shocked when she saw what I was doing. A little part of me felt that she would have wanted the money for herself, her family, and/or her friends. Sigh. There is so much to learn about their culture.
