Abrak is corrrect. No Westerner has ever been executed for drugs in Thailand.

I'll clarify what I know to be true
There was no death penalty between 1987 and 1996.
To my knowledge, one Myannmar citizen was executed for murder in 1999.
A second Myannmar citizen was exectuted for drug smuggling in 2000.
Approx 17 people a year are executed in total.... (an average figure heard, but I cannot confirm it's validity, but certainly doesn't add up to the nonsense of hundreds of foreigners being listed in newspapers)
There was a big fuss about 2 Israeli's on death row at the turn of the millenium. I believe their sentances were eventually reduced.
It is a matter of great frustration to some in drug enforcement that Western foreigners never get executed, as they would actually like to have someone made and example of.
In my oinion stu is a troll, isn't he the $350,000 a month LOS wannabee?

ps...Mr Daddy...Pot does not show up on piss tests, only testing for amphetamine based drugs (someone clarify the second part, but pot does not show)

I just got off Amnesty Internationals web site (for this purpose only) and there are no references to any farangs being executed in Thailand, other than five Asians in 2002.
Believe me, if any Westerners had been executed, AI would have still be yelling about it.

edit....I am not questioning that an EMIT test shows up mariajuana......I am questioning that the test they use (i.e. not EMIT) will show up mariajuana.

Hey,
I did the same thing with the Amnesty International site and found nowt about Westeners being executed either. My apologies, you are right, but then it was just something I was told and stopping publishing the figures did sound like a fairly typical Thai solution to the problem.
As for the piss tests, if you're right about that as well I missed out on 5 weeks of nightclubs. Pot will show up on a piss test, it depends what you you actually test for. Testing people for the numerous drugs floating about Thailand can get fairly expensive so it may be that they only look for the main club drugs or the ones that cause the most problems, pot wouldn't be one of these. Didn't realise they'd been piss testing Go-go's too, guess it's just another reason to keep yourself clean.
I think America actually have an arrangement with the Thai government whereby US citizens can serve their sentences on home soil.
Somebody was asking about penalties and bribes, 2003's Lonely Planet reckons:
"...if you're caught using marajuana, mushrooms or LSD, you face a fine of 10,000B plus one year in prison, while for heroin or amphetamines, the penalty for use can be anywhere from six months' to ten years' inprisonment, plus a fine of 5000B to 10,000B. The going rate for bribing one's way out of a small pot bust is 50,000B."
Not sure how acurate that is but it looks like you've got a choice of ten to twenty rounds of soapie sex or bribing a cop, depends what you'd class a good time.
