After 10 months now with my gf, I've started spending more and more time staying at her apartment, which is nice, but not exactly up to the standard I'm used to at home or in the hotel.

Therefore, I'd like to get her set up a bit better with things like a fridge (she doesn't have one!) and various other things.   When I lived in Hong Kong there was a very active expat market for selling used household items, which was a great way of getting new or near new items from people that had lived in BKK for a year or two but were returning home.

Does such a market exist in BKK, and if so, where's the best place to see what is available?  I would guess the classifieds in the Bangkok Post, but was hoping there might be something better than that...

Oh, and a funny aside.  My gf was much more interested in me buying her a new mobile phone (she already has one) instead of a fridge (which she doesn't have).   That says a lot about Thais in general, doesn't it!

ZZZZ,

The reason is she cant carry her fridge when she goes shopping and show it off to her girlfriends.

Makes sense, ever thought of getting her a smaller fridge on wheels!!!!!

She's still getting the fridge, the stereo and English channels on TV before the new mobile, that's for damn sure!  ;-)

ZZZZ,

Well, I think that a fridge, fan or even a radio or TV are not that expensive if you go to MACRO or LOTUS.

A fridge i.e. MITSUBISHI is around 5.5K (price for a bang with a top model at POSEIDON) and a nice HATARI fan is around B/.700 (a full srvice at SoL/Lolitas).

A 14" TV is around 6-8K and a decent small CD player is no more than 4K.

Brother Dave bought some home appliances as well and then ensured a couple of months with his cutie....an example to follow. But this is not your case though....

I agree with Pinga, new stuff is not that expensive and Thais really don't like second hand. If you girlfriend is touchy she could even get mad at you : "you think I am not worth buying new stuff" and so on...

Though if you still want to buy from departing expats, go to the biggest embassies and foreign schools, there are billboards full of ads selling almost anything.

If you really prefer to get second hand electrical appliances, you can try this place:

Mr Fix-Value at the basement of Seacon Square besides Makro Office. Great selection of electrical goods with good prices. Most of their goods are confiscated from consumers who buy from Aeon, hire-purchase plans who fail to pay up.

But the location may throw you off...just a suggestion..

You could also try this website (but in Thai though):

2nd hand computers, peripherals can be found in Pantip Plaza. I remember buying a monitor for 2,000 B, hell I was broke then.

Only Pinga could equate buying used appliances to the cost of sex! Amazing!

So Pinga, what would be the equivalent to buying a new Honda CRV?

Few years of free-banging a model from Poseidon or Cleopatra I reckon!
