Indeed it is soi 77.

I am forever saying that one wrong in taxis.

I lived very close and used 71 or 77 get home depending on the direction of traffic and in 2 years got it correct twice.

I also do not know my left from my right and once got it wrong because my legs were crossed when I wiggled my foot.

Padawan was there, he'll vouch for that.

Jet-sip-et, jet-sip-jet, easy mistake to make.

Reminds me that there's a little IT Mall on Soi 71, about 50 meters up from Sukhumvit. It's on the side of the street closer to Phra Khanong BTS. Not too many name brands there, but a few, plus enough components to build anything you could dream of: switches, cables, circuit boards, and all that sort of stuff.

Nothing to do with confusing the Thai

I just have it in my head that 77 is in fact 71, made the mistake once by accident and it seems to have been programmed in.

just as left sounds nothing like right.

As Onnut Carrefour and Tesco Lotus are apart from each other. Perhaps even better is to go to Rama 4 by taxi right away.

You'll find Carrefour and Tesco Lotus opposite of each other.

The IT mall VJ referred to is Power Buy. At the beginning of Soi 71 you'll find a lot of individual shops specialized in cheap Chinese VCD and DVD players.

Rajbir, there are programs which allow you to burn photos to a VCD as a slideshow. No Photo CD necessary, any VCD player will do...

No, it isn't. I mean the shop that can be entered either from Soi 71 or the subsoi that connects Sukhumvit 71 and Soi Pridi Banomyong 2. That subsoi also has a lot of electronics and appliance shops.

Anyway, now you know there's also a shop who sells the well known brands. Perhaps one of the few places where you're guarantee is actually worth something in that area.

Power Buy.....

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 27 June 2007 :-

Power Mall set to join price war
=======================

Power Mall, a home-appliance and consumer-electronics retail chain, has threatened to jump into a price war with discount stores after struggling to achieve a 5% growth rate in the first half of this year. The affiliate of the country's second-largest department store chain, The Mall Group, had earlier sought co-operation from product manufacturers in helping stabilise retail prices and narrowing the price gap between department stores and discount stores, said Apichart Assavapokee, chief merchandising officer for Power Mall.

Despite the talks, the discount stores have held on to their pricing strategies, sometimes with margins as low as 3-5%.

''It's fine as long as the discount stores offer reasonable prices. But if they go too far and the suppliers have no control over the prices, then we're ready to enter into a full-blown price war,'' Mr Apichart said.

He added that the price war had intensified this year. For example, an LCD TV set is now sold for 40,000 baht, down from 150,000 baht in 2005.

Economic hardships have also affected Power Mall's sales, with single-digit growth rates seen over the last few years.

In the first half of this year, Power Mall recorded sales of around 3.5 billion baht, up 5% from the same period last year. While unit sales continued to increase, both margins and sales value failed to meet projections, largely due to the prevailing price-dumping strategy adopted by most retailers.

But its store at Siam Paragon continued to perform well, particular with regard to TV sets, for which sales were 40% higher than those at other Power Mall stores in the first five months of this year.

Buoyed by the strong demand, Power Mall will spend 50 million baht and team up with manufacturers, banks and automotive firms in the Paragon Electronica Showcase campaign from July 3-15 at Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon.

More than 50 brands, ranging from electrical appliances and mobile phones to IT products, will showcase their products in the 8,000-square-metre exhibition.

The event is expected to bring in 250 million baht in sales, boosting Power Mall's overall sales to exceed seven billion baht by the end of this year, up 5% year-on-year from 2006.

Arnut Changtrakul, deputy managing director at Thai Samsung Electronics Co, said the company would showcase its Samsung AirWash, the world's first washing machine that uses hot-air technology to quickly remove bacteria and unpleasant smells from clothes.

''We will go ahead full-steam in penetrating the washing-machine market with our AirWash model, which is among our 22 new models to be launched early in July,'' he said.

''The new lineup is positioned as an alternative for young-lifestyle people familiar with European-brand washing machines and dry-cleaning systems.''

The company aims to achieve 1.6 billion baht in washing-machine sales this year, up 40% from the same period last year. The overall demand for washing machines this year was projected to increase 10% to 1.2 million units.

With a 16% market share, Samsung now ranks second in the local washing-machine market.

The company plans to become the leader in the front-loading segment, which makes up 8% of the total market in terms of unit sales, in 2009, with more than a 30% market share.
