Thai gold wear? can't understand it.
I have a gold necklace, which is 15 years old bought in Korea and it never wears out.
I measured it how much I have lost so far about one year ago and its weight was the same.
Gold never wear unless you scratch it out on the wall hard or something like it.
Thai gold is cheaper than any other gold you can buy in other countries due to the percentage of gold. (965/1000).
A fried of mine bought 37.5g gold necklace and sold it in Korea that bought him about 50 dollar profit.

I think most Thai gold is 22k. which is about 92% pure
( 22/24.....1k is 1 part gold and 23 parts allow metals. 2k is 2 parts gold and 22 parts allow metals, and so on....also the type of allow metal can be used to make the final product more yellow in color) 22k gold is as "soft" as I would buy. I think I have chain or two from Saudi Arabia that is 22K. Pure gold is too soft for jewlry that you might wear everyday.
18K, which is 75% pure is just the right mix...which is why you find most gold items in the United States at 18K.

I have about 16g necklace which is 24K (99% of gold) and it is soft as you said. But it is still strong enough to make jwellery and my necklace never lose its shape. This is why traditionally 24K gold is regarded the best product and regarded the same as currency. 18K, 14K are not valuable as the percentage of gold. ( 18k of 3.75g is not worth 2/3 of 24k gold)
anyway, buy gold in Thai. I will bring you some profits.

Thai gold is 23K. The shops are licenced, and regulated by the gov't, with the buying, and selling price posted conspicuosly. There is a bt100 difference between the prices.
The variation in the prices comes in the form of the handling fee charged. This can be from bt300 - bt800 a baht, bt800 being the farang rip-off quote. A bt500 fee is at the high end.
I prefer to buy my gold at MBK now......same same as china town, but with lower fees. Picked up a nice 6 baht chain, a 1 baht bracelet, and a 1 baht pendant, with only a bt300 fee charged. Best handling fee I was quoted in china town was bt500.
If you buy, make sure you get a certificate confirming the weight, and the quality (23K). With this there is never a question of it's quality if you decide to sell.

I was disappointed with the selection in the Tang Toh Kang Gold shop, the 100 year old gold shop with the feared Garuda. I was looking for a necklace & pendant combination, but they only had chains or very expensive colored pieces. It was also smaller than I expected.
Anyone know what the name is of the store right across Tang Toh Kang - the one with the spearman?
Shopping for gold in Chinatown is easy. Just look for the big stores that are busy. There’s lots of them. Crossing the street is not easy, however. I saw crosswalk lights for the 1st time. They worked better than the cops with whistles. Still a spectacle in itself to watch people cross Yaowarat where there are no lights or traffic cops. If you have to do it, cross with the locals, they know how to cross in traffic. Better yet, find a crosswalk light.
