Quote: from magnum on 10:22 pm on July 24, 2005 Resident here for the last 5 years, I've shopped about and now have all my tailoring done at Rajawongse Tailors - 02.255.3714, on Sukhumvit between Landmark and Nana.
I have to sadly report a bad expereince with Rajawongse. I bought some skirts and a suit for my SO there. When we went for the pickup and final try on, the seam in the back was not right. I know as my dad was a dry cleaner in the US for 35 yrs and as a kid I did minor tailor repairs myself; letting slacks in or out, making longer or shorter, etc. The older man kept saying it was ok trying to get us to pay and leave. The younger guy kept quiet. I insisited and fortunately when we came back the next day to pick up from the final adjustments, he had fixed it. But the old man tried to pull a fast one on us. They lost my business and I live here and have many friends who come and listen to my rec's. Sorry to have to say this......

Why don’t you contact UKShagga, I am sure as a fellow BTF member, he will cut (no pun intended) you a deal on some nice made to measure clothes. My brothers and I have used him for over 2 years now. They (brothers) still buy quite a few suits and shirts and slacks off him (I am too hot here to wear a suit) and he ships them to UK and Germany for them. If you are in Bangkok PM him. He will come to your house/hotel or office with his tailor and bring a wide selection of very high quality materials in various colors. He has quite a selection of quality materials to choose from. A few days (2-3) after taking your measurements, he comes back with one of his tailors for a fitting. His materials are far better than anything I have seen before. And the quality of work is excellent. He charged me 1,000 to 1,200 a shirt depending on the material. Suits go for around 12,000 to 15, 000 Baht, depending upon the material selected. He also has much higher quality materials available. TC ps. I don't make any money from this. I have enough thanks!

I was in the shop besides Rajawongse. It is run by a certain Raja. I noticed, too, that this guy obviously wasn't the tailor. When I bought a suit, he fixed a date with a Thai tailor, who came into the shop, took the mesures and probaly fabricated my suit. So in my view, it doesn't make such a difference where to buy a suit. The suits are fabricated elsewhere, maybe by the same group of persons.

Not true! Over time I've found the advise that Griffin gives here to be spot-on. So, yesterday I popped into Narins to give them some business and compare their work and materials to the only other tailor shop I've used here- Rajawongse. Well, imagine my delight when on my way to the dressing rooms I passed by two bonafide seamstresses and two tailors engaged in the manufacture of their craft. Jackpot! Narin is the real deal. I had told him I wanted some slacks of whatever fabric he'd recommend suitable for the tropical climes and also some Egytptian cotton for shirts. When he presented his fabric swatches of Egyptian cotton in the manufacturers own bound voulmes I knew I'd arrived at an establishment that is a league apart from the cloth merchants down at Rajawongse. He presented me with a diversity of fabric that makes Rajawongse's look like the Walmart of Sukhumvit in comparison. Which only reminded me of my initial visit to Rajawongse's. First thing I asked was, "Do you have Egyptian cotton?" to which Jesse replied, "All of my cotton is Egyptian cotton" While that raised an alarm. But I've since went ahead and had them make almost a dozen shirts. To me, the tailoring has been quite good, but I suspect that many of the fabrics they've sold me are not even 100% pure cottons. Which is why I've been tempted recently to ask for a swatch of a few fabrics which I would like to flame test. Were they to display any signs of melting my suspicions would be confirmed. I'm not likely to go back now, however, since Narins so impressed me. If anyone else wants to run this little experiment it might benefit the thread some

On Sukh. at soi 8- about 6 storefronts away from the corner and closer to the Bangkok Bank on Sukh. I brought in a couple of paris of trousers, the cut of which I was particularly fond of and we used those as a starting place. Seemed to work very well, and it gave us both a chance to size up the others style.

could not find a post by griffin. I can recommend majestic tailors (a bit pricey though). also I tried royal tailors on soi 3 (about 40 meters from sukhumvit (right hand side). the guy in there is very helpful. and Isee, no I have no shares in these tailor shops nor do I get any commissions. rtb

Quote: from griffin on 11:08 pm on Mar. 28, 2005 besides narin between soi 8 and 10 there is also 'embassy fashion' which is run by a british guy! they are on wirless road just before plaza athenee and conrad, usually recommended by all the major hotels and so are their prices. quality is the same as narin but much higher priced. got some shirts made with them for thb 2.500 each. i still stich to narin for quality and price. mind you both places aren't run by indians that might tell you something!
The above is from page 5 of this thread: http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=16&topic=192&start=40 He had more praise for Narin in earlier threads. Here is another:
Quote: from griffin on 5:33 am on April 29, 2004 narin, as mentioned above the more pricier tailor, has zegna and piana fabrics! i got my suits made there with piana fabrics, cost is about thb 20,000 for a jacket with 3 trousers!
From page 1 of this thread: http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=16&topic=61&start=0 Too bad we don't have the capacity to merge threads... One thing I forgot to add to my oearlier post, when I inquired when I could pickup my pants I was told I would have to come in for at least one fitting before they would be ready. That too was a reassuring indicator of both value and legitimacy, to my mind at least.

Guys, Based on the previous postings of Griffin and Skip I decided to give Narin Couture a try. I have previously had Bobby from Rajas (near NEP) and Majestic Tailors make suits for me with varying results. I liked the suits that Bobby (Rajas) fashioned but my main complaint was that he didn't listen to want I wanted. He failed to include a button hole on the lapel (as I had requested), made the lapels a tad too wide and did not make the trousers a slim cut. The Majestic Tailors' suit was just not constructed well and I really regret going there. On the other hand, Narin, a Thai-Chinese who I believe was trained in Paris, produced a suit which was EXACTLY what I had described to him. I accomplished this by showing him pictures of suits from a couple of magazines he had on site and also by describing to him what type of fit and details I wanted. I was so pleased with the finished product that I immediately ordered a second suit. I believe the suits I ordered were of his "medium-grade" fabrics and cost 13,500 baht. I am by no means an expert on bespoke tailoring but I do know enough to recognize the finer details of tailoring. In fact, Narins is the only tailor that I have visited that has the work performed on premises by his own staff. Can you say Quality Control? Sure, I never received any Heinekens or Cokes or a warm greeting by name, (Narin still can't remember my name) but the attention to detail to the finished product will keep bringing me back there.

Guys, I am interested to hear all of your comments about Raja's. I presume that talking about Raja's Fashion which is directly opposite Nana Hotel? If not you perhaps mean the place just down from Landmark? Anyway, I have bought three suits from Rajas. Two when I was over there (as did my friends) and another via post. I have to say that I am not overly impressed with the quality overall. The cut of each suit was different despite the fact he (and his workers) has worked off the same measurements. This is disappointing given that I asked for a slim, athletic shape given I am young, muscular and was looking to show off the whole thing when in my office at work. The cut of my suit is simply not top drawer. The shoulders could have been brought in a little and I notice that buttons on my pants are now pretty loose. Also my friend tried on his suits when he returned home and noticed some pins were still in them!! There is no way that Raja is involved in manufacture, as I don't he even takes the key measurements. I do not think his suits are the worst around but I would go somewhere else and will perhaps try Narin next time.
