Here is a good resource: http://www.bts.co.th/en/map.asp

Click on any of the stations and you get the map of what is at each exit - exit 4 of national Stadium goes right into MBK.

CG thanks a good map with lots of detail. It can be used for more then just going from A to B. Lots of shops, pubs and hotels are interactively incorperated. We can use it here to locate stuff in many a topic. Maybe BK should contact them to also put every whorehouse of the city on their maps. I think most of us would apreciate that.

And I just remembered why SIAM is also known as central station. Every station has a letter and a number to indicate the price you have to pay. The logic of the letters is that you have 2 lines that meet at SIAM. That is the centre point. From there you have 4 arms. Every arm has a name N (orth), E (ast), S (outh), W (est). And since SIAM is neither of the above it is the central station. But as a tourist that is not your problem. It is called SIAM and only SIAM.

Make sure you have comfortable walking shoes because the place is huge. It is so large that there are 8 Chesters grills, 5 KFC's, and 7 McDonalds's restaurants in the same building.

Mr Alan.... is this really true ?
7 McDonalds and 5 KFCs ?
Hmmm.... been there many many times and never noticed.

The restaurants on the 6th (?? floor below the top where the movie theater is) are good. I highly recommend the Korean grill place. You walk in and the first left, it is right there on the right. Hard to get a seat sometimes but the food is excellent. Will be 400-800B for two.

I rarely eat at KFC or McDonald's, in Thailand or USA, but according to the MBK webstite it is true.

One of my favorites in the MBK is a Japanese Tempanaki place near the entrance to the Food Court. You sit at a bar in front of the grill. They don't exactly serve prime beef, but it is not bad and about 1/10 th the cost of a Tempanaki restuarant in Japan. They also have seafood.

Thanks for the info, everyone.
Another question....Can I take the BTS skytrain to the BKK Police HQ on Rama I Road? Would it be within short walking distance of an exit?

As RTB says.. just get a bloody taxi. It's only 50 baht from soi 11.

Why does everyone try to make life so difficult with long-winded descriptions of BTS journeys and discussions on the relative merits of getting off at Siam versus National Stadium?

It may only be 50 baht, but often times the traffic is terrible in that area. At the National Stadium BTS stop, MBK (Tokyu Department store) is directly connected to the BTS platform. It doesn't get any easier than that.

Damn, I knew one day it had to happen, That I would actually agree with Mr. Alan.

But he is right, it is not the 50 THB, it is the freakin traffic. Sometimes it could take an hour to go this short distance ob the surface street and if it is raining on a Friday night, well many taxi's will not even take your fare.

And as Mr. Alan states the National Staium BTS stop is directly connected to MBK.

Although I drive here, when in BKK proper I usually park at an easy access parking lot and take public transportation. There is no easier way to get around in the city.

Unless there are several other buildings attached the website quoted by Mr Alan is exaggerating. I have been from top to bottom and I have not noticed more than one or two.

However if the site was talking about walking distance then it would be spot on as it seems that there is a Mc D's on every corner in BKK.

But Mr A is right in that the place is huge. It also seems that a siginificant portion of the stores, as breconion said, is devoted to the sale of gold. Therefore take your TG at your own risk. The 6th floor Foodpark is a great place to rest your feet and drink some cheap piss..
