atl, SGGirl is a Senior Executive in the ultra-high-end marketing business and I would love to have her bonus. They are making a hell of a lot of money as the average markup is upwards of 500%. Additionally, when a customer comes in to make a purchase they end up buying several items of a complementry nature. With that business model it only takes a few customers to be profitable... BTW: The shops at Siam Paragon are not targeted to the average Thai. They are intended for the upper-class Thais and big spending tourists (Japanese, Middle-Easterners, etc.)

I notice that the prices of food at the Food Court are rather expensive compared to other Food Court. The prices are comparable to that in the Central Chitlom Food Court - probably operated by the same Management?

Report from Bangkok Post dated Thursday 30 November 2006 :- Siam Paragon looks to boost lagging sales ================================ The improved political situation is reviving the confidence of consumers who will enjoy lower prices of luxury items during the festive season as the baht appreciates. Local department stores had launched aggressive marketing campaigns to stimulate consumer spending for the final month, after facing sluggish sales so far this year, according to Kriengsak Tantiphipop, the executive chief marketing officer of Siam Paragon Development, operator of the luxury shopping centre. He said that consumers were more inclined to shop since the political situation cleared up, and the rising baht meant that Thai consumers could now buy branded products at cheaper prices. The company plans to spend about 270 million baht on marketing campaigns to help meet this year's five billion baht sales revenue target. According to Mr Kriengsak, the company expected sales to grow by 10% in 2007, driven in part by the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport, which would attract more tourists to Thailand. The planned launch next year of a number of real estate projects, with a total of more than 20,000 units, along the new skytrain routes and connection to the Bangkok Transit System (BTS) is also expected to drive traffic through the shopping complex. Siam Paragon is planning 700 marketing events next year, the same as in 2006, and set a marketing budget of 300 million baht, compared with 400 million this year. Currently, the complex sees approximately 100,000 visitors a day, 60% local and 40% foreign shoppers. Each spends an average of 2,000 to 4,000 baht. ''Up to now, Siam Paragon has welcomed more than seven million visitors from around the world,'' he said. Mr Kriengsak said the company would open a new theatre in 2008 and construction of a five-star hotel had already started.

Siam Paragon is run although jointly by the Mall Group and another business. The Mall Group owns Emporium and "The Mall" department stores. that's why you see the same stores in both holdings. But as to why there are particular specialty items located in Paragon than Emporium; Paragon being the Flagship of course. Should check out Central World as well, a lot of new brands that you will not see in other Central Department Stores, including the Flagship Central Chidlom. but for your information Central Chidlom is actually owned by a different side of the same family as Central World Central Chidlom = owned by Central Retail Corp = CRC Central World = owned by Central Pattani -- big land developer hence is why you dont see a Central Department store in Central World (b/c different owners from same family)

Report from The Nation dated Tuesday 12 December 2006 :- Paragon racks up Bt10 bn in first year --------------------------------------------------- Siam Paragon plans to spend about Bt300 million next year on marketing campaigns aimed at attracting shoppers from all segments of the Thai and tourism markets. "We will focus on a 'segmentation' strategy next year," said executive chief marketing officer Kriengsak Tantiphipop. "After operating for almost a year, Siam Paragon is now the top-of-the-mind shopping centre for locals, and on some days the ratio of foreign tourists rises to nearly 50 per cent of visitors to the complex." He said Paragon Department Store had contributed nearly Bt10 billion to The Mall Group this year, helping the group's total revenues, including those from The Mall Department Stores and The Emporium, grow almost 35 per cent to Bt40 billion. "We expect Siam Paragon to grow 10-15 per cent next year," he said. "We already have a strong database covering the overall retail market, our tenant stores, customers and their shopping habits." The shopping complex will use a "segmentation" strategy to attract all family members next year. "We are a centre for luxury jewellery and watches, with more than 40 retail shops in this segment. We also have more than 300 fashion-apparel brands serving people from mid-range to triple A," Kriengsak said. "We also attract people who are looking for lifestyle products, such as supercars. There are showrooms for nine supercar brands at Siam Paragon, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Aston Martin and Jaguar. Kriengsak said Siam Paragon also had stores for books and lifestyle and entertainment products. He said that in its first year, Siam Paragon had proven to be a world-class shopping destination. It attracts about 100,000 visitors a day. Of these, 60 per cent are locals and 40 per cent foreigners, spending an average of Bt2,000 and Bt4,000 a person, respectively. Next year's marketing strategies will focus on Siam Paragon's world-class position as a fashion capital, jewellery centre and lifestyle zone. An emphasis will also be placed on its men's world and world of stylish living.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Tuesday 6 February 2007 :- Mall aims to revive demand ===================== The Mall Group, the country's second largest department store operator, plans to spend about 300 million baht on aggressive promotions to help revive weak consumer demand in the first quarter of this year. Natsamon Vongkittipat, assistant chief marketing officer, said the company expected sales from its three department stores _ The Emporium, The Mall and Siam Paragon _ in the first quarter to achieve the target of 18 billion baht, about 8% higher than last year. To achieve its goal, The Mall Group, Paragon and The Emporium will jointly stage a 50-million-baht Chinese New Year campaign from Feb 8-22, aiming to drive the group's total sales growth in the first quarter to 15-20%. Ms Natsamon said the company expected the group's total sales this year to reach 43-44 billion baht, up 8% from last year. Of the total, about 24.5 billion baht would come from The Mall department stores, 11 billion from Paragon and 7.5 billion from The Emporium.
