... I cannot imagine how any of the 3 methods the police want will stop video piracy:
(1) anti-camcorder laws?.. the knock-offs I buy on the street are copied from the original recording (very high quality) ;
(2) ban Internet copying?.. enterprising Thai pirates are technically light years in front of the Thai Police;
(3) laws against landlords on whose premises pirated videos are sold?.. try going after crooked Thai families like Charoen's will they (Pantip Plaza) ?.. or, the crooked street cops on whose beats street vendors sell?.. oh, yeah?
... pass what laws they will, the root of it is that there is no Thai official who is not corruptable, and no Thai laws that are enforceable... none... I see Thailand remaining on the U.S.'s watch list of intellectual property violators as long as there is a Thailand.
... imagine the day Thais give up corruption, indeed!

Actually most CAM rips (and not only these) are not recorded in Thailand, but sourced from international warez sites and release groups.
I bet that the illegal software trade in Thailand is only a fraction of what is exchanged on international sites.

DVDs are too expensive and bulky to collect so you saw a movie and want to see it again yer right im gonna pay 2 k for the privalige I think not.
I mostly download myself and wil continue to do so had bad experiences with the dodgy copies in thailand.

Most of the CAM rips seem to coming out of Russia. Sometimes, you can get Russian dubbed versions of the movie or subtitles will be in Russian.

Thailand 'top IP pirate'

The US Trade Representative once again has put Thailand on its list of top pirates of intellectual property, known as the Priority Watch List.
The annual Special 301 Report said 42 of 77 nations reviewed were either actively aiding intellectual piracy, or were doing too little to fight it.
Thailand is on the "dirty dozen" list of alleged top violators, along with China, Russia, Algeria, Argentina, Canada, Chile, India, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan and Venezuela.
The report says that Thailand has "shown a continuing commitment to improving protection and enforcement," but has "failed to make substantial progress."
According to the US report, the big complaint is that Thailand has failed to pass laws demanded by Washington, especially one to ban the use of video cameras in cinema to record movies.
The USTR also said that enforcement against piracy in general is both weak and non-deterrent.
" Piracy and counterfeiting, including illegal downloading of pirated works from the Internet, and the theft of cable and satellite signals, remain rampant in Thailand," the report claimed.
The annual naming of Thailand as a top pirate theoretically opens the country to punitive trade measures, but so far, no action has ever been taken against Thailand because of the piracy.

where could one find fake Mont Blanc (ball point or roller ball) pens in Bangkok that can use real Mont Blanc refills.
I bought one yesterday on Suk near Nana but of course it wrote like crap and the real refill won't fit..... well it fits but it doesn't go in and out normally.... hmmm sounds like my willy! :p
Seriously... I love the way the Mont Blanc pens write so I'm looking for a pen that uses real Mont Blanc refills.
Anyone else besides me here buy this fake crap?

It's so funny, really - I used to chat with the MPAA's main guy in charge of fighting piracy, and regularly offered to check out the Thai markets for them.
This guy was convinced that, just because the PM at the time (Thaksin) assured him that "piracy was destroyed" that there would be nothing for me to find, and there's no need.
Right after I arrived and checked into my hotel, I'd send him an email that I arrived, and was going to check across the street how things are.
30 minutes later, I sent him an email with pictures of the loot I purchased - all the latest movies, all for $3, and screenshots of all of them.
"This is very disappointing" was his only response.
Subsequent meetings made very clear to me that the US entertainment industry has absolutely no intention or interest in stopping or intervening with piracy, with the exception of the occasional "show bust" or domestic lawsuits.
Most of this is just gesturing and posing.
