Last year I tried to ship back approximately 50 silk scarves and table cloths, when they checked the contents at ups they said I would need a textile visa or customs would not release it in the US. Has anyone had any experience at getting a textile visa? Any help would be appreciated.

Without answering your question directly - I have shipped several individual clothing packages with no problem, but would guess that the large number of one item could make you suspect for a more restrictive commercial resale category rather than for tourist use.
Your textile seller should certainly be able to advise, but if they pass it off casually as not a problem, just to make the sale, you should get another opinion.
BTW - you MUST get a customs clearance document from seller if taking out antiques, buddha images, and some teak objects.
