I have never actually bought electronics in LOS except a boom box when I lived in BKK. Not much cheaper than here in LA.
I want to buy a sony CD walkaman and speakers. I can them both at Wal Mart for around 60$. Can I do better in Bkk?
Thanx for any info. I would rather buy there than shlep it to LOS

The main things you can get cheaper in Thailand are items that require service (labor) as part of the equation i.e. haircuts, food, tailor made clothes, but for bought items Thailand is no bargin; at best you could find the same prices. If you stick to name brands like SONY it may be at a premium to what you pay in the USA.
The USA is a shopper's paradise, so I would just point, click and buy the items you want in the USA and bring them over. You won't find any bargins here in electronics, except in the cheap Chinese brands that will probably fall apart before the end of your stay.

If you go to the MBK shopping center (on the BTS at National Stadium stop) you will find a hundred small shops that sell CD players and small speakers. As in most things in LOS, be prepared to bargin a little bit to get the best price.
If you get a CD or speakers in the US, make sure they work on 220V also. One option is to get the CD player in the US, and pick up some speakers in LOS. That way you listen on the plane and it won't take up much room.

The last trip, I found:
- hard drives, low capacity slightly cheaper in BKK
- hard drives, high capacity slightly cheaper in USA
- DVD players, no diff.
- laptops - cheaper in the USA
- desktops (custom built) - a lot cheaper in BKK
