If you want to have a painting made, you can go to the nearest corner of your street and find an artist that will make a painting in a minute for you. If you want to buy wooden sculptures you will trip over the sellers and dealers. But never did I see anyone making it. I guess most of it is made in some village up shitcreek somewhere out of the tourists way. I have a whacky drawing from a whacky artist that designed his own picture frames for his own pictures. On paper that is. I want to turn one of his designs into a real picture frame. So I need to find a woodcarving artist. And I prefer him to be in BKK or as an alternative in Pattaya. I don't want to wander the countryside for such a person. Ofcourse I want a quality job for an affordable price.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
P.s. For those of you who are interested in ordering a painting to be made for you, I did a small market survey a few years back. I will give my findings here. Seems a good place as any.
I ordered paintings from 4 shops. Sometimes even the same painting, some were for selling, some for my own home. In pattaya I went to the paintshop halfway Royal Garden Plaza and Walkingstreet (on Beach Road) and the big shop halfway WalkingStreet (the one going al the way to the waterfront). In BKK Iwent to MBK on the groundfloor NOT the one on the end but several shops before the end (on the BTS side). And the artist on the topfloor of Silom Plaza. The result was that Pattaya is cheaper than BKK (what is new?) and that the artists are a bit better in BKK. Silom Plaza was twice the price of the cheapest and was also the best artist. So in this case it was true that quality comes with a price. Paintings were made inside a week to fit my travelplanning. I hope this helps some of you that are interested. (Survey is based on 8 paintings made by 4 shops, so take it for what it is worth. They are the most easy to find shops for even the most drunken of tourists )
