I'm looking for a great tailor to have some suits and shirts made while in BKK. I've heard lots of warnings about taxi drivers taking you to "clip joints" where they receive "kick backs" and want to avoid this. Names, addresses, and, or websites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks bkkz. I appreciate the info. What does the Armani Tailor usually charge for suits and shirts? Do they have a quick turnaround time? I'm looking to pick up 3 or 4 suits and 12 to 18 shirts if I can get good quality for a fair price.

Big Red, Where are you staying? The Majestic Suites have a Tailoring shop right next door by the same name that is owned by the family. I think that is there original business that is supposed to be doing a good job though I have not tried it personally. Kris

Bigred, can't quite remember the price though. I think it was about 4,000-5,000 B per suit, depending on the material selected. I remembered spending about 30,000 B, he was very happy. If you ever see someone wearing a bright yellow suit, that's me. As for turn around time, I know they can get it within 24-48 hours, but time wasn't important for me, so I collected it the following week.

Kris, Thanks for the suggestion. I found The Majestic Suites Tailor website a couple weeks ago and was wondering if any Bros. out there have used them. I'll probably be staying at J.W.Marriott or Sheraton Grande (leaning toward the Marriott at bkkzs suggestion) but I haven't finalized hotel yet and I'm still open to any ideas on a good deal at a great place.

there are a lot of quality tailor's in Bkk. Most on Sukhumvit are legit, prices vary and perhaps quality, but you can get a suit for about US$125 and shirts for US$15 or so .. pay a lot less and worry about the quality.. when you compare these prices to the States you realize the value.. Kmart might have a suit for $125, but it will not fit and be inferior quality .. In Bkk you are getting a custom fitted suit .. they are nice.. too bad I gained a bunch of weight and cannot wear the two I have .. One place that I found that is not such a deal is pants like Dockers.. if you buy Dockers on sale then you pay about the same .. I get a very good fit with Dockers.. I usually buy these pants at Costco as they have them about 3-4 times a year .. Regarding shirts.. I have a very difficult time buying off the rack shirts due to my size .. I have relatively short legs and a long trunk so have the problem of regular shirts always pulling out at the waist.. looks terrrible and is a pain .. I had all my shirt made about 3" longer so they stay tucked in .. just make sure that they are not so long that they hang below your knees Being semi retired now, I don't need to dress up much, but still wear long sleeve dress type shirts .. I like the button down look .. also another custom feature I like is having pocket flaps that have a small slit to allow putting a pen in your pocket without the flap having to be moved.. looks much better .. Oh, I had all my stuff made at Gulati's which is on the corner of Soi 3 and Sukhumvit .. very reliable and prices are reasonable ..

bkkz, Thanks Bro. It sounds like there are some great deals in BKK and I'm looking forward to it. I don't think I'll get a bright yellow suit though. At 6'4" and 300+ lbs. I'd probably look to much like a "School Bus". Thanks again.

Tao Hua Nguu, I know what you mean. At my size, I can never find anything "off the rack". It's hard to believe the great prices I'm seeing. A good quality tailor made suit usually costs me $1,000 to $2,000 each depending on material and shirts run around $100+ each. So, even though I hate shopping for cloths, I'm definitely going to pack lite and return heavy. Thanks Bro.

Hey Tao, Try costco for the kirkland dress shirts. They have extra long tails....same length as Nordstrom. I'm 6'4 and have the shirttail problem also.
