Bros, I am heading back in about 9 days. I am facing that most vicious of creatures.... the TBG that wants to get married and is setting her sites on me. I have several language resources available to me but I cannot find certain words and phrases translated and I am hoping that you guys can help.

Let me give you a basic heads up on my situation and then I will ask for certain specific words etc.

So here is my NOT unusual situation. I have aTGF that I spent 8 days with 24/7 and she is already alluding to wanting to go to Amerika. I am about to spend 8 more days with her and want in my arsenal of comments to include the following words and phrases.:
Love takes time
We must be patient (Note: I found the word for patient but am afraid it may mean doctors customer who is ill rather than waiting-calm person)
Another big one that I would like someone to coach me on DECISIVELY on is the WORD/ idea of COMPATABILITY. This will be a very important word in my upcomng conversations and I want to use it and it's variations in appropriate ways.

This is very important to me guys. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Watch for my upcoming FRs beginning Feb 7th.

Guys I REALLY NEED HELP on some language issues to succed here.

PLZ Work with me!

Yes I am the guy with the fiance back home. Thus my need to move EXTRA slow and confirm compatibility.

I would echo Tryclops' advice, and just run away from it, but I assume that won't be happening. I'll be looking forward to your postings a few months from now about "how you should have seen it coming..." and how now ALL Thai girls are double-faced wenches, or some such stuff...

While waiting for that inevitable outcome, I'm curious if you're just looking for a way to keep a mia noi in BKK, or if you're genuinely tired of the fiancée and are looking to upgrade...?

If you're looking for a genuine upgrade/replacement, I would suggest you clean house with your fiancée first, and deal with the compatibility issues once that is done with. Otherwise, your relationships are overshadowed by duplicity and dishonesty, and you will reap what you sow.

Yeah, I know, silly pop-psychology, and your girl is different and your case is different, and we'll all see how you'll beat the odds

Remind yourself of the wise words from another bro in this forum "Three words: SEX FOR MONEY".

Good luck,

Harry

You are considering dropping your fiance back home for a Thai BG you have been with for a week?

Is this a real good idea? For someone who you have been paying for companionship? Only you can decide.

At any rate, I can recommend Pimsleur. It can get you up and running fairly quickly in very, very basic Thai.
http://www.pluralitylanguage.com/languages/pimsleur/thai/

Other than that, I can say that any attempt by you to say the phrases above would either fail, or just cause more confusion, as there is no way for you to follow up with answers to her questions.

Learn how to say "dai" (can) and "mai dai" (cannot) properly, that should get you started with her.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but there is not a good solution to your 'problem'
.

In addition to Teacher's link, I will proffer this one:

http://www.thai-language.com/

A comment about Pimsleur's language tapes. They were quite helpful for me in picking up some basic thai - I certainly couldn't carry on a conversation with someone that didn't speak any english, but it provided some phrases to mix in bad english from their side, as well as some useful grammatical structure.

HOWEVER.

Some of the consonants were wrong, according to more than one thai person (and a falang). (Thais being from Isaan, Hat Yai, et al)

For instance:

Pimsleur says "bah-nee" for "now". They emphasize a B sound. More than one person corrected me, and said it should be a D sound: "dah-nee"

Similarly, "bok-lohng (khrap) " should be "tok-lohng (khrap) " (means "ok" ) and "doong a'rai" should be "doom/dum a'rai" (drink something).

Still a good basic set of lessons, but it pissed me off to have something so clearly pronounced, apparently by Thai people, be incorrect. (or if this is due to a regional difference, then regionally incorrect with large numbers of people in Bangkok, from different backgrounds, as well as the education of an American that seemed quite proficient at Thai with the girls of Chiang Mai)

OK guys, I guess my lil wink in my last reply went un noticed. I was trying to be subtle. I am NOT seriously considering dropping my fiance at home but at the same time I want to politely keep "Sam" at bay. I want to do this without destroying the nice connection I have developed with her.

Before you beat me up for being a dishonest assss! Let me explain further.I have never said the L word to her. She does but I have urged her to not use it but she is back at it again. Because the time grow short for my return. She understands that it is hard to believe that BS from a bargirl.

I HAVE told her that it would be hard for us to be together. Thailand is too hot for me (Grew up in Alaska) and there is no job for me in LOS. It is very hard to get a Thai lady into America. It is also too cold for Thai lady here, she would not be happy here. See guys I have tried to suppress this interest of hers in going to America with me and will need to gently suppress it more on this trip as well. I am going back for more of the balls out GFE from hell that she hit me with in October (OOhh my god) but want to instill in her that if we were to pursue a relationship that she must be patient and even though we like each other that that does not mean we are compayible. Attraction and compatibility are not same-same!

I will check out some more web sites for language info I guess.
I have already been to the learning thai.com site. Will try others.

that's the spirit.

why not tell her the truth?? she can handle it. much better then a broken heart.

I mean, I live here. so be nice to the girls, don't be an ass. I bet she will accept the truth, as long as you treat her honestly.

my friend from hongkong, has a lovely wife. then he had a lovely girlfriend here (freelancer from cm2), he told the girlfriend the truth. she accepted.

she said to me: "I know he have wife and he loves her, I only borrow him from her, so lets have a good time why he is here".

I was impressed.
