no, I start reading / writing classes next month anyway it's funny as that audio sure sounds like tang rather than tung, plus every english spelling i've seen spells it with an a and not a u.

Hi Broken Leg... As for the little controversy between you and Local Yokul over an a or u... I think, if I am not wrong, you are from the UK and Local Yokul is American? This question then, how the vowel is actually heard by each of you, may also have to do more with your respective dialects and how that makes each of you want to write the vowel. I see plainly in the Thai that the tonal mark LY mentions would change the vowel into something that to an American ear would much more resemble u than the a transliterated in the full blown sa-dtang.
