DrLove you just never quit, do you? abrak gives the answer precisely, and you splosh in with another cretinous gaffe. one assumes what you're (typically) struggling for is "reo ti sut", which would mean "fastest" -- not that that was what the inquiry called for. the way you've transliterated that first word, however, one might surmise that you've attempted to say (as only a linguist of your decidedly unique talents might), "already-est", or "the most already". in your case, what probably most pertains would be the phrase, "leo ti sut" -- that is, "the worst".

TPE, Thanks for the clarification on "lorh." My TGF uses that a lot on the phone when I am making some sort of statement. She will interject, "lorh?" and let me keep jabbering. Was never sure what it really meant, just figured it was some sort of "jing, jing"" thing. I'll try the "low class" mai bpen rai on her tonight, lol! It will probably be followed by the ever-suspicious inquiry, "teelakja, how you know about?" Ha! BTW, was actually corrected by a Thai tour guide (she was an English/Thai citizen, spoke very good pasa Angrit) on the Chao Praya this year. Happened to use "gin khao" in her presence, she corrected me to the more formal "taan khao." So looks like I will have to get my act together this summer when I really try to learn the language in more detail. - Balls

TPE, BTW, what makes "mai loo-c" even "lower class" than "mai loo?" Is it slang? My TGF uses the latter all the time, especially when she wants to avoid my question, lol! - Balls

Whatever you say, Master of Dictionaries. Please don't forget that you and me don't speak the same Thai. You simple get your knowledge from dictionaries and transliterate from them. What I speak is day to day (24 hours) practical Thai I learned for the last 10 years or so. If you want something as soon as possible you can use 'laew ti soot'. 'As fast as possible'.... which is (in my opinion) the same as 'soon as possible'. Remember, 'laew' is not only transliterated as 'already' but also as 'fast'. BTW It seems that you have no further contribution to this board than bashing at either my Thai solutions or myself. Although I kind of laughed about that phrase in one of your post 'All farangs are evil scum, especially DrLove''. You must really love me. Do you live in Thailand or sit frustated behind your computer somewhere outside the country? Try to jerk yourself off.... it's rather good fun too! When are you going to give me a reply about our Thai language contest here in Bangkok? Then we'll see who's the real Thai speaker and who's the pretender. This will be my last reply to your stupid answers (which look well formulated but totally incorrect).

Balls 'si' is not lower. It's simply a way to emphasize words. Like 'Pai' (Go) or the stronger 'Pai Si'. If you like to be polite use 'mai sahp' instead of 'mai lu'.

Doc Luv, Thanks, that makes sense, because when I am pressing home a point (in a very un-Thai way) that she doesn't want to reply to (especially when we both know SHE knows the answer), I get "mai loo si" with a tad more gusto in it, lol! Might as well try to get a stone to talk, at that point! - Balls

DrLove and sorapong... perhaps it is time we all have a standard way of transliterating Thai words. I would have written it as "reow thii suud". However, if I followed soc.culture.thai's proposed method (not perfect, but great for ASCII transliteration of Thai words), it would be written as: rew thii" suud' When spoken, the "r" is not stress, and sounds like "l"... which is why DrLove used "laew", which could also mean "bad" (depends on the length.)... so that transliteration would have meant, the worst. Although, I would have prefered "leow", since "laew" could be interpreted as already. When we have a standard method of transcription that we all can agree on, it will be clearer for everyone else. ----- Balls, yeah, "kin" is colloquail, and would be used with someone familiar. I love this word, "daek" (or sounds like "deck") which is very impolite, well, don't try it out with your tour guide.

You're right, BK. We have this discussed this before. There are various ways to transliterate. But in whatever way you write it phonetically, Sorapong's is always the best and only solution.

Actually, for those of us who know much less Thai than both of you Dr.L and Sorapong, your continuous disagreements escape our low level knowledge and actually confuses us more. Furthermore, we have no way to say who may be right. Thus your higher level knowledge of Thai is not appreciated correctly. We have no way to tell who is right and who is wrong. Could I then suggest to both that for the sake of the uneducated -like me, you leave the high level linguistic debate for those situations where there is an obvious mistake. But leave the pursuit of perfection out for the time being. Afterall, "Perfection" has always been "Good's" worst enemy. For now, I will happily settle for good and worry about perfection later. On the other hand, you continuous arguing trying to show who knows best, has great entertainment value eventhough we may not have a clue about the underlying matter discussed.

ya know what? it's simple. Nevermind that I find DrL a class A dipsh_t, and nevermind the issues revolving around standardizing transliteration, which sure as shinola ain't gonna reach consensus in these quarters; I’ll stand on my original point: blackknight asked: "Gentleman, how do we say "as soon as possible" in pasar thai?" Abrak capably and definitively responded: "as soon as possible = than thi thi bpen bai dai " then the ever-erroneous DrLove chirruped, without warrant: "laew ti soot" -- which simply is not only **not** the correct answer to the question already asked and answered (no matter how the doofus spells it) -- it's patently way-the-planet-fripping-Pluto off the mark. Translation from sorapongese: the Dr is wrong, and too tiny to admit it. DrLove, and for anyone else Thai-alphabetically enabled (and I won't bore those of you who aren't any further than this: ) if you don't know a ror reua when you hear one, step down from the platform or prepare to be dunked. By the war, Dhur, you harp on my dict more than Krypto used to. I speak Thai in context, conversationally, all day every day, and I don't mean sitting at the fish’n’suds hitching posts you frequent, hoping to cadge 'ladydrinks' and fretting over whether or not you'll be 'out-ed' by some other forum-frequenters for being whatever it is that you are. FYI, I have no need to rely on research materials as backup in our skirmishes; skeet-shooting you out of the clear blue **fa** isn't exactly big game, and besides, I wouldn’t want to embarrass so much as a Lonely Planet Thai Phrasebook by waving it anywhere near your feeble, if floridly fecal, effulgences.
