Why is he saying and refering to himself as "Chan"? Isn't "Chan" for the first person for females while "Pom" is the first person for males?

It all depends how intimate you are with that person.

When you are really close, you can actually use "Chan"... and you refer to the other person as "Ther"... heard of that song "Chan Ruk Ther" by Tata Young?

For Thais that are really close, they use "Kuu" (me) and "Mueng" (you). We of course, cannot use it... It is considered rude if you are using it with someone you don't know, but it is really fun to use it once in a while.

Just so I don't get this wrong please, I could say to a female I am close too:-

"Kuu kid tung ter mak mak lei chen gun"

Is this correct? Thanks!

If you want to use "kuu"... then replace "ter" with "mueng"... but as I said earlier, we can never use it, but I guess for fun.

I love you with different degrees of intimacy:

"phom rak khun"

"chan rak ther"

"kuu rak mueng"
