I think that's a common misperception that "kee" means "shit" when used this way (as in the commonly mistranslated 'sticky shit').
It really just means "characterized by" (or perhaps having a tendency to). It may have been derived from the "kee" meaning roughly "substance of", but it's misleading to continue to translate it that way, IMO.
Also, I think "kee mao" means substantially more than just "drunk" or even "shit-faced". It actually means "drunkard". I am occasionally very "mao", but I'm not "kee mao".
There really is no offensive or rude slant to the word, so translating it as "shit" is just misleading.
That's my opinion, anyway.

Yes...I did say that it meant wastefully (not shit) when used as a prefix......that really applies when attached to a noun....in the examples we used I agree with you...means more of...is inclined to....addicted to....have the propensity to be.....leaning towards.....
kii mo-ho.....inclined to throw temper tantrums....
kii moh...given to exaggerate
I must admit I'd never really put kii mao down as drunkard....just very drunk at that time......but after checking the red book.....yep....you are right........f_ck....just goes to show how they think they know us after seeing us once.......and how right they are.

I'm not sure I follow. The reason I think the translation of "kee ..." should not be "... shit" is because "shit" is indeed vulgar, so the translation is misleading. "Ki nu" would be much better translated as "mouse dung" than "mouse shit" in my opinion. I think too many Thai people have been mistaught that saying "Shit" all the time is acceptable (probably because of bad translations such as this).
"Kee!" by itself is, I think, considered vulgar. But I don't know if it's on the level of "Shit!" or "Crap!" or "Poop!" (which are in descending order of vulgarity). My guess is typically closer to "Crap".

Chompoo 14/2 mar thammai. I assume you refer to line 2 of Tonchai's song. What he actually sings is tong mar=must come; and teyng arai I think you refer to line 8 which is pen arai=what's going on.
Taeng moh are indeed used to describe breasts, but more comical is the Thai expression when someone is talking about a girl's breasts, she will reply yar priap thiap mam-muang=don't compare them to mangos!

Common usage:
"puad chee" = need to pee (chor ching, sara ee)
"puad euuk" = need to shit (polite), "kii" is considered vulgar in this usage

As I remember it Chompoo was refer indeed to 'taeng arai' (to my phonetic's), the questioning as to what type of water melon he was being offered which appears in line 13, just above the English word 'smile'. This of course assumes we are looking at the same version....I couldn't find 'pen arai' in line 8, but in line 9 (last word).

Decided to try out some "new thai words" with my TGF on the phone tonight. She was excited, and said, "okay, I listen."
So I launched into "puad chee" and "puad euuk." This, of course, was followed by silence on the far end of the phone. So I said, "kao jai mai khup". She answered, "noooo" in a rising tone. So I knew she got it. Then a little more silence, followed by "how you know word like this?" Couldn't help laughing at that point.
So I stuck to my guns and hit her up with Yurune's four ways to say "liar." She was actually impressed by that -- means I gotta keep Yurune away from her, lol!
But she had this comment about "puad euuk": She said she used "puad thawng" to politely notify people that she needed to hit the horng nam. She translated "puad" as meaning "discomfort", kinda like "jep" but less literal. So she translated "puad thawng" as "stomach discomfort" leading to the need to hit the toliet. She told me she would not use "puad euuk" when in public, but preferred "puad thawng" as the most polite way. (Me, I just say, "where's the horng nam?" )
Interesting to me, though, how something this simple really isn't. BTW, she also agreed that "kee mao" means drunkard, in the same way "kee nok" means perpetually "kee neow."
