sputnik,

Reading and writing are not taught until Module 3.  I will be in Module 3 at the Nov. start date.  I did not study module 1 at unity, so can't comment in depth, but apparently it is a lot of work on tones, basic vocab and patterns.  Module 2 works on increasing vocab and pattern knowledge, module 3, etc. continue this while adding in reading/writing.  I also assume that Union and Unity are similar as Unity broke off from Union.  I can't see them devising a whole new curriculum.  As for the one on one schools, I have studied at two of them.  Based on my and other persons that I have spoken with experience, these lessons seem to often degenerate into either discussing one's love life and/or oftentimes either accepting or fending off the teacher's advances.  The book never gets opened.  These schools seem to largely lack a system/set curriculum.  At union/unity, they know they have each day's lesson set out.  Depends on how you want to learn.  I found the one on one's to be less productive.

Thanks nikko,

I'll sign up for class once I arrive in BKK.  How many students are currently enrolled in modules 1 and 2?  and do you know what the maximum number of students allowed is per class?   Just wondering what the chances are of the classes being full before I arrive.  My backup plan is to try Union and if they're also full I'm not sure where to go - maybe NISA, YMCA?

Unity has classes in the morning and the afternoon.  Last session, I tried to sign up a week before class for the am sesssion and it was full.  There are about 18 classrooms with a max of 10 students per class (there are 9 in my class).  Last year I looked into Union-- it was a 3 month wait at that time.  3 weeks ago, there was no wait.  I guess it just depends on the time of year, etc., but both schools seem to fill up pretty quickly.   BTW,  I believe it is actually Y-W-CA (Siri Patana) which is at Sathorn Soi 13(?).  Reputation wise, it might be the best of the one-on-one schools.  I think Nisa follows the Union/Unity style, and may have broken off from Union also,  but I'm really not sure.  You might be able to reserve at Unity by e-mail before arrival.
