Hi All this is a newbie question, please forgive. Was wondering whether any seniors out there could tell me where is good for $ exchange. Does the ones at the airport give good rates. Do they have a different rate for bigger amount for eg. $100 compared to $1000. Cheers!!!

In the baggage area on the same side as customs there a money exchange machine not ATM. I got 43 to $1USD with no service charge or long wait in line. Down town money exchange all had simular rates. Only rip off is the hotels. ATM are all over the place.

I think if you walk down Sukhumvit road, there is an exchange about 50 metres away, just on the corner of Landmark Hotel. Dave

Yes Dave, there is one right outside the Landmark entrance. I think it is in the Landmark Hotel building itself. Also there is one right outside the Ambassador Hotel entrance on Sukhumwit. i.e. right at the bottom of the pedestrian bridge. It is open till 10.00pm if my memory serves me right. Kris

Thomas 71 You will find many $exchange places on Sukhumvit, they are all over the place - soi 5, 7, 11, 13, 19, etc along with the BKK bank across from Ambasador plaza exchange booth which stays open late. Often you need a passport, at the airport often you do not need the passport.

Thomas71 The currency exchange booth in the airport customs area can have a long queue. I used the one outside customs where there was no queue. Exchange rate is about the same as everywhere else, exception is the hotels which give a poor rate. Doesn't matter how much is exchanged, rate is the same. Traveller cheques attract about 25 Baht stamp duty regardless of amount exchanged. KTM

There are many ATMs in Thailand especailly at all Sytrain stops.... Best thing about it is you can withdraw huge amount of Baht and depending on your bank, the extra service charge aint that much.... Prefer it this way than to bring foreign currency
