JackRabbit present... That was a top example of complete laziness ... "do not wont links to sites want the rates from pattaya itself so any1 there plz find out for me. " Basic rates are here, there is no Pattaya Bank who gives different rates. Foreign+Exchange/FX+Rates/default.htm And if You want the rates in Pattaya, do the walking by Yourself and check every single exchange booth for finding the best rate. JR

problem with travelers checks is there is a fee of about 30 baht each to cash them, so if you go that way get them in large demominations, I usually just bring cash and leave it in the hotel lock-box until I need to change it

Changed some cash sterling yesterday 73.5 baht for £1 All Exchange booths are almost identical in rates. The absolute best rate in Pattaya is at The Private Bank in Soi Rungland (off Pattaya Tai Rd.)

Checks are not worth your bother. They pay you more baht per pound but they charge you more baht per check. So a lot of signatures and keeping track of numbers all for nothing. Just bring a stack of pounds and forget about the hassle. As to the exchange rate, that is a stupid question for someone who has been here. You should know there is no fixed rate. Every bank has a different rate and every day the cheapest bank changes. So walk the walk if you want to save dozens of pounds per exchance. I now have the strange habit of checking every bank I pass. If I need the money or not.

I have just returned and noted that the best price was for T/C’s normally 0.5 baht more than for notes. The price for the weeks I was there (07-21/11/04) seem to average out to 74 bahts/£ for T/C’s & 73.5 bahts/£ for notes the average interbank rate was 75 baht/£, I seem to recall there is to be paid on T/C’s. Personally I do not use T/C’s but use my debit (Visa Delta) card instead which is accepted in most if not all ATM’s now, take about £200 in notes for emergencies and a credit card. In the past I noted that if you purchase goods or pay for meals with a credit or debit card there is no charge for converting the currencies, though some traders chare you more if you use a card, just checked my statement and noticed that the exchange rate is loaded by about 2%, (difference between Visas & interbank rates published for the day of transaction). And for withdrawing cash from ATM’s I get screwed for an additional 3% (minimum £1.50) handling charge by my bank, (I think it is about time I changed banks). For the latest interbank prices check: http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic BB

So, Blattsucker, you don't feel that the added security of Travellers Cheques is worth it, eh? You'd rather walk around with a huge wad of cash and risk it being half-inched by some pickpocket before you can get it into the hotel safe. And even then, when you exchange your £/$ notes, there is some commission cost on the transaction. If you think that the miniscule difference between the cost of changing notes and cheques for TB is not worth the peace of mind that the Travellers Cheques give, then that's your decision.

Just bring your ATM card - practically all ATM's in Pattaya will accept it. The 1.50GBP charge is buttons & there is very little risk. I have always found the ATM rate to be competitive with other forms of exchange. If you can save 1Bt on the exchange rate (which is a lot) and you change a 1000quid you will 'save' about 13GBP - hardly worth the effort IMO.

Credit card and ATM rates are allways better than travellers checks/ cash rates. I think it's cheapest to travel with these, any losses are insured and you can allways have a few travellers checks in reserve should you lose your cards. However the Credit Card /ATM rate will allways be a few points less than the interbank rate because of the volatility of the currency markets. If you're in LOS regularly or want to make a big purchase it's worth considering opening a thai bank account then you can transfer as much as you want at the interbank rates from your bank in your home country, you don't have to worry about carrying large amounts or currency or if you lose your cards, don't know about costs to los but cost me 20 quid to TT to indonesia would assume it's similar

For UK visitors who want interbank exchange rates from the ATM the Nationwide Flexaccount is hard to beat, best exchange rate, no commission etc. Plus if you need to show your Tilac you have 'run out of money' ... you can use their online banking to check your balance and instantly transfer between accounts.... I keep my stash in one account and only transfer what I want to spend to my ATM card account - and top up from the internet cafe.
