VB, hey you know thats the initial of a rather tasty beer in Oz, anyway, I think you misunderstood me. The guy had an account with 800k baht in it and it went missing from the account. He did not use the account for sometime and then when he went to withdraw it, it was missing. An ex employee had stolen it and the bank basically said bad luck. PR, I am not sure which bank it was now, he did mention it at the time, but I cannot remember, I would have to ask him. As for banks falling over here, that is good news, I would hope it would not happen anywhere, but it does sadly. I guess the difference I was mentioning is that the Gov. in Oz guarantee it, whereas I am not sure if you would get that in writing here, if at all. The Machine, geeez Sydney real estate, you must be loaded now after 20 years worth. I had looked at a couple of properties a couple of years ago, but prices were very high. Guess they will only get higher.

Ducksnutz I was very lucky in that i bought when things were not that expensive relative to today. My property will be my superannuation. I will retire when i am 50 but first i am gonna get a bit more oil money from the ME so i can live in the style to which i have become accustomed to!!!!! If i retired now and came to Bangkok i would probably drink and shag myself to death by age 50!!!!

TM, Depends how old you are now I guess, but I moved here and have settled down nicely, never go out, stay home and be faithful to the missus, all that kinda stuff. I looked at a terrace in Surrey Hills and they wanted $1.4 for it, I would love some of those terrace houses in that area.

Ducksnutz I have a place in Coogee and one in Darlinghurst. Coogee is one of the best places in the world to live and i will never sell that property. As for my retirement i would probably live in Coogee and come to Thailand when i had the urge as i find that Bangkok is too dirty for me and that if i stayed long time in Thailand the magic would wear off. BTW I am 45 so only a few years to go.

At this time i would not invest in thai real estate. The prices are growing ludicrously fast, especially in the speculative condo market. To me it looks like another bubble, but most of the thai's i talk to seemed to have forgotten 1997. They all say that it can never happen again and that real estate prices never go down. Yeah... right. I've read some interesting papers and opinions that the collapse of the global equities markets and low fixed income yields has resulted in investors seeking higher returns in real estate markets. This is true in most major markets, Shianghai's real estate prices are skyrocketing. However, real estate prices outside of major cities remain unaffected. Sounds bubblish to me, but its something to consider. If thailand does foolishly launch the Vayupak fund with guaranteed returns and KTB continues to bail out banks and bad ventures, i'd sell as much baht as i could.

Investments with online trading account in NY that returns very well, i trade on line for one hour every night, thats it. then go out and get smashed if i need to or stay home and watch TV. Hardest thing to do is force myself to stay sober until i finish trading... ahahhahaha. Ýbut life is good
