Btw, I was asking the info on beahlf of a friend of mine...kinda lazy to call the customs.....at least now we have some useful info available for other brothers!
20,000US$ is not that much anyway....ok, tons of BF but still not extreme......

Bear in mind that you must declare sums greater than US$10,000 to US Customswhen transporting it in or out of the US. It is not illegal to transport it, but you MUST fill out the form. Be prepared for a LOT of questions/scrutiny, especially in the current climate.
Also, you should know that WITHDRAWING those funds from a bank will trigger a SAR (Suspicious Activity Report) to the Justice department, which WILL be distributed to local law enforcement. The US government has carte blanche to investigate these kinds of things. There IS NO privacy...is the scrutiny worth it?

Caronte, I would take haam sup's advise seriously.
First, it is no problem bring this amount into Thailand, you are the type of tourists they are looking for!!!
Second, Once my traveling partner was throughly searched before boarding the plane in the LAX, USA for amounts of cash in excess of 10K USD. The penalty for not declaring excess cash is that the US government gets to keep the excess
Lastly, the first stop in BKK should be the BKK Forum RT to buy the bros a round of drinks for their help.
