If and its a big IF, it is true, then someone should start a website on the crap of thailand and see what the government thinks of some wide spread international critcism to the general public.
I would not imagine he is bullsh_tting he is not the type.
He lives in BKK and if he says something like this you can bet there is something in it. I await his next e-mail.
He has quite a few farang mates in LOS so I would guess he has wind of something. Maybe not operational now but soon ? I cannot verify this that is why I asked the question. All I can say if my mate (known him 20 years) says something like this there is something to it !

My bank seems OK thus far, but no doubt this is just a temporary reprieve. Just got back from Cambo with yet another unpunished overstay, so in conclusion I'd just like to say that some of the Thai lady cops at Aranya are really quite stunning.
The star of the border post is the one at Immigration window No 2 when you come back into LOS - what a knock-out! I was very disappointed not to be detained for questioning, but no doubt this is just another way of putting the boot in. These people will stop at nothing to make farang lives a misery.

the banking system here has had me confused for years. you get a different answer depending on who you are talking to. and that is not just for farangs, it works like that for thais as well. I was under the impression from years back, unless you had a work permit and had showed it to the bank, thai banks would give a foreigner 50% of the going interest rate, on a savings account anyway. considering the interest rates here on savings accounts seem to hover between an exciting 0.5 - 1.0% p.a., and I never have any savings anyway, I have never really bothered about it.
By the way, I got this info personally at Bankok Bank on Sukhumvit as I said quite some time ago... Things may have changed for the better or worse... or the girl at the bank who told me knew f_ck all as well

"Thai Farmers, now Kasicorn a/c. Everyone wants work permits to do so. I have a BKK bank a/c but rules change on a regular basis, one week OK next week cannot do. Even had to show passport to get cable tv in my condo. Wanted to see work permit for that! Eventually accepted my Non-imm B visa. "

why bother talking about Thai interest rates when they're next to nothing.... they can t give enough money away for free... pump prime the economy, make the poor spend beyond their means - f_ck the consequences...
So many Thais have mentioned to me how their own society is going down the drain.... do anything to make money.... sad when they see it themselves... Keep gagging yourself Thaksin,,,, we love you because your a billionaire.... you eat chicken, we follow, control the media, we obey....

I think you make some important points here. In any country it is important to listen to what the locals are saying on the street. If the Thai on the street is saying,"their own society is going down the drain...." Then you can bet your bottom dollar it is. I believe too many farangs visit then get carried away with the illusion and see nothing below the surface or the society. Listening to the locals is valid. It's the quickest way to find the real pulse of the nation.
Whether or not any of these opinions on the following thread RE: Banks are now valid I cannot say? Perhaps my friend was not asking the right questions about which account and is trying to open an ordinary 'Thai' account and not one designed for foreigners?
