I concur with all that's been said above.
The f/x rates offered by dealers back in Farangland are nothing short of highway robbery. I normally bring some emergency cash with me and change it at the Bangkok airport (which I find offers a very competitive f/x rate) and also bring my ATM cards to withdraw money at the ATMs (probably the best f/x rate you can get).
I would advise you not to exchange money before your arrival in Thailand.

1) As a general rule, fx rates are best in the coutnry you are travelling to. So change your USD in Thailand.
2) Guessing forward fx rates is pure guesswork. If a trend is detected or suspended, the existing fx rate will reflect it. So ignore advice of the kind given above ('I expect the rate to do this...').
3) TC are best; safer, easy to exchange, better fx rate. Cash a few dollars at the airport to start you off.
4) Credit cards charge a whopping commision charge on transactions in foreign currencies, and on cash withdrawals.
