Here are the new 2 Baht coin! I was getting some change today, expecting to see 4 x 1 baht coins, and got 2 instead. I thought the guy had made a mistake with the change till he told me that they were 2 B coins. And to add to the confusion, it is only slightly larger than the 1 B coin.

Don't seem to be many in circulation even though they have been out for a while. Think l saw one for the first time about six months back and you're correct, very difficult to tell apart. Can't understand why they didn't make them a different shape or color to avoid confusion.

My opinion it was the 200BHT note that needed introduction NOT a 2BHT coin.
A bright orange coloured 200 BHT note,,, sitting beside the 500BHT notes, easily identified and negates the mistakes of the 20 and 1000 BHT notes.
