Any debt less than 100k is just not worth our effort...
In other words, you are saying that your collection fee is between 40-50,000 B!

Quote: from Buai on 1:51 pm on Nov. 14, 2006 Just ask any cop, I'm sure they would be happy to do some moonlighting for you for a fee.
Slightly off topic, but it reminds me of something that happened to a friend recently. He's sitting at Big Dog's having a few beers with his mates, when suddenly he notices his phone is missing and he sees some boys running away. He grabs his Heineken in order to throw it at them (his mates say it was funny that he paused for a moment, faced with the dilemma that the bottle was full and he would be wasting a beer). He flung it, and missed, then ran off down Soi 4 in pursuit of the perps. They lost him. So he stops at the police booth and tells the cops of his plight. They tell him to wait 15 minutes until another couple of cops return. He waits, and the cops take him to some game room or internet cafe and point out two kids. My friend positively identifies the perps, but they deny the crime. Then one of the cops whacks one of the boys across the face, and suddenly the stolen phone is produced. Unfortunately, the battery and sim card are missing. Another good smack to the face solved that problem, and the boys were hauled away. The following day, out of gratitude, my friend stopped by the police booth and gave the guys a bottle of Black. Later, at 3AM, he gets a phone call. It's one of the cops, and he wants to stop by the hotel for a visit. My friend, thinking that the cop just wants to thank him, gives out his hotel and room number info, and waits. The cop arrives and proceeds to whine for 20 minutes about how broke he is, how lowly he gets paid, etc etc... Furthermore, it's his birthday, he is expecting several guests to his home, and he can't afford the whiskey to serve them. Finally, my friend gave the cop something like 5K, just to get rid of him. I'm not quite sure why I posted this story in this thread. I guess I just thought it was worth telling.

TPE II said "We often have to resort to unconventional tactics but it can get messy, and it ain't cheap!" Which can mean I think, how bady do you want to collect. Some debts are about more than money. A lot of emotional debt can be added on top..so figuring out that kind of mess can cost more than the original debt. Revenge comes at a price.

Correct me on this TPE II - these are expat clients - that is farangs in Thailand - lets assume Joe Average types who are not married into a thai hi-so family or otherwise connected - and stable enough that someone with some common sense extended credit to them in the first place - surely they are highly vulnerable to a call from Sgt Somchai at immigration who doubts their visa will be renewed with this unpaid debt blackening their records and making them "undesirable persons" to remain in the Kingdom. That is a bluff that would work on most wouldn't it? Or is one that could somehow back-fire? Just curious. Enjoy.

The client is an expat yes. He signed a business contract stating that his company would pay. We undertook the work, invoiced the company then found out that the company had gone broke (in Thailand). He knew this beforehand so I have dropped any thoughts of receiving the money by civilised means. When we mentioned this to the client he told us it was a problem between us and his ex-company, but he actually signed the contract. Contacting the police is an option, so is strictly legal means. Personally, I think the guy is a prick so would be happy for him to be treated with disdain, the same way he has treated our company.

BK: Your not far off there mate! Half a loaf is better than none! Yurune: If I could I would but I can’t so I won’t… I think I still owe you some anyway… Fastmover: Revenge can be very dangerous for all concerned and we try not to play that game mate. That is best left for the movies… Talking of which… One thing to take into consideration is that if (A) seeks revenge on (B) then (B) may also seek revenge on (A) and so it goes on, and on and on… It also depends on how well (B) is connected… Minder: The scenario you suggest could and has worked in the past. But we are hesitant to involve the MIB unless it is as a last resort. Then again it all depends upon the individual situation. And yes it could also backfire in more ways than one. If it is determined that the guy who owes to money to my “client” fully intended to cheat him, (that is also very subjective) then the approach is short, sharp and decisive. It is much different if the guy who owes the money entered into the contract with good intentions and has just fallen on hard times. In my opinion, it is far better to help a man back onto his feet than to keep kicking him while he is down. Who knows one day it might be one of us falling on hard times… Kenneth: There is more than one way to skin a cat… If your wish you may contact me with the details and I will give you my unbiased opinion: http://www.thaiprivateeye.com There is no cost for a consultation and no obligations to you. Furthermore, all correspondence will all be kept in the strictest of confidence. TPE II
