Caronte. I assume you are a Thai national, which is why you can open an account with a mere 500 baht. If you are a foreigner I think you are talking crap.With my account I got an ATM card. You may assume that it is NOT a VISA card in any way shape or form.

Maybe Caronte mixed up currencies here: 500 Baht for the ATM does not make much sense either, 500 USD instead does.
And - as far as I know - you can open an account (including ATM) in Singapore at a minimum of 500 USD.
So I think it should read 500 USD instead of Baht.

I opened my US dollar account in Thailand without having a work permit.... Bank of Asia...
Edit in: 500 THB is all it takes to open a bank account in Thailand. Caronte is correct!

Btw, before talking REAL crap, folks, go out or get a phone and check with the banks!
In the last 2 years I took no less than a dozen of farangs (me no Thai!) to Bangkok Bank to open their accounts with 500 baht as first deposit.
Foreign account? Working permit is not a must...there are other solutions available....check directly with the banks...Bank of Asia is the easiest one for this matters...

as of this morning @Bangkok bank, some rules changed since last year ect, but heres the deal.personal bank account or passbook account 500 bt to open you want an ATM /Visa elctron card additional 250 bt With biz visa (non-b ). you can get a Visa card 1of 2 ways same account with 100,000 bt or joint account with thai resident. and BTW U.S dollar account is still and has been for the last 6 years 5,000 usd to open. I only had a biz visa when I oppend it.

Constant transfers into the Thai account will be costly, from a UK bank account (even though you don't have one)...where is the money being paid into in the UK?, you haven't clarified that so advice on the best account for you to transfer into cannot be the best.
