Has anybody heart of Vasu Money Changer? These were the rates that I got off another website.

It looked like today's rates (100 dollar bill) were:

Bangkok Bank 37.96
Vasu 38.20
Superrich 38.10

BTW, Vasu is on the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 7/1, which is different than soi 7.

Well, well, well,,,,, looks like my prediction of a $US heading south against the BAHT maybe hitting a low of 35 - 35.5 is looking better everyday ( today 37.2).
I hope some of you took my advice and got out of the sinking US$.

What does surprise me here is NOT the US dollar going down but the strength of the Thai BAHT,,, starting to look a bit over-priced, expect a correction - major correction some time in the next several months.

God bless Thailand and may her BAHT be realistically valued against the Aus dollar ( yes I am a selfishj c...nt)

Smiles all round.

waiakeauka.
I mentioned Vasu few times on this forum.
Vasu is the place where I always go to exchange my money.

Vasu is a travel agency but at the back side of the travel office there is a private money exchange. Seems like it accets almost all currencies.
Very good place so try it. only cash is accepted

to be honest I highly doubt the baht will run that high against the greenback. due to the amount of exports that leave Thailand. the BOT will adjust to realistic levels otherwise their will a larger deficit from trade. Thaksin mentioned in his weekly annoucement that the deficit was 4 billion baht but the ministry of industry/commerce said it was 16 billion baht.

for Thailand to stay competitive with the region and with China the baht will have to stay near the 40 baht mark to make it competitive...

nyc boy,,,,,, I think you miss understand the trade relationship of Thailand with China. What was once seen as a direct threat to Thailands economy has in fact proven a huge bonus for Thailand,, its EXPORTS too China have grown very rapidly and very proftably for Thailand.

The other MAJOR influence on currency rates is interest rates, many believe the USA has finished its cycle of rises in interest rates and the same can be said for Thailand. So I guess on the green-back Vs Baht we are looking at a near stale-mate. The only major changes would come from Political or terrorist activities ( un-predictable).
The next major to moove will probably be the AUD ( yes I am Aus but I do look at realism), the Aus interest rates are predicted to rise ( will rise) over the next 6 months, a big contributer, plus commodity prices are looking very healthy for Aus,,, unemployment which has been a burden, is at its lowest point in decades, combined with a steady if not spectacular Government, should see us at US 80 cents + by Christmas which on an unmoving market against the BAHT would see 30BHT + ( suits me .

So to cut to the chase,, I would be buying AUD as a haven against the BAHT or USD dying.

These are only opinions of the writer and have fark-all legal consequences.

Cheers

Don't change 3k U.S. now. I would advise to take an ATM card and change in $200 or $300 dollar amounts. We've argued about this repeatedly but I always get a better rate with my ATM. Also, you don't want to take 3k in U.S. or the equivalent in Baht around in your pocket at one time.

I would never exchange to baht outside of Thailand, simple fact is you always get a better rate here.

Bring your 3K in cash and change it and put it into your bank account (assuming you still have one) upon arrival.

I do the same usually in about 10K GBP amounts (on the odd occassion I go home) as it's easier than transferring. Tiny risk as far as I'm concerned.

I have always used visa debit at atm's in all the countries I've travelled to and without fail it has given me the best rate even taking into account the foriegn currency conversion fee, not sure if it would be different in LOS (hidden service charges) but would be surprised if it wouldn't be the same as other asian countries I've been too.
