Well I am always worried about getting ripped off, but have never had any problems. I try to split my money up, with never more than 4 or 5 thousand baht unsecured. I will take a couple of credit cards, but not have them in the same location. I have left money out in my room (300-500 baht), to see if the maids walk off with any, but they don't touch anything. When I was in Argentina in June, I left about $30 in pesos on the table my whole time there. Never had anyone touch it (girls, maids, etc). I really feel sorry for anyone who would take $25,000 to Thailand. Unless you're staying for a year, that's way too much. Most anyone would be tempted for that kind of money. I was once in a vault with 15 million dollars in it, with only an old security guard around. (This was an offsite ATM company). Now, while I wouldn't have hurt him to take it, if he would have keeled over dead from a heart attack, I would have been mighty tempted.

In fact I leave it there on purpose to test them... Actually, I often do as well - and pace 11bravo, it isn't so much a 'test' as a signal that I don't distrust them. Alternatively, I might give them a B500 or B1k note to fetch some cigs from the 7/11. This is money I can afford to lose, of course, but the risk is minimal. No girl has ever stolen from me like this. I have a strong belief that most BGs respond to your expectations. If you treat her like a conventional date - as a nice (and ordinarily trustworthy) girl you're attracted to and want to take out, that's how she'll be. If it's obvious you see her as a hard-bitten little whore planning to rip you off or steal from you at the first opportunity, she may be quite capable of playing that role instead. To some extent, you get what you ask for. As for leaving big money ($500 or whatever), jewellery, your passport or CCs lying around - well, that's just plain stupid. But it's plain stupid anywhere, not just in LOS. Ý

The 25K and 35K is in baht. I treat the BG like I'm on a date but why tempt them? Plus, I don't know them so why place my trust in a stranger that I most likely will never see again?

I talked with an attendee of the Sept RT. He was victim of a katoey pickpocket on Nana 2 days ago. Lost wallet with cash and one ATM card. Four weeks ago while leaving Nana at the 2:00 AM witching hour. I grabbed a katoey's hand while he/she/it was in the process of lifting my wallet. Pickpockets are in full force. While in the police station to file a police report for a losted passport a coupe of years ago, there were dozen's of people filing police reports all for the same scam. Jewelery scam goes like this: "You approached by a tout with a flyer advertising huge sale, sometimes having something offical like Thai Tourism Board or the like. Next you are taken to a shop and given unreal prices for various types of gemstones with their "Guarantee of Authenticity" The selling point of this scam relys on basic greed of individuals. So now with gems in hand you return home. You then have them appraised by a local jeweler and find that either they are colored glass or are actual gemstones, but worth a lot less then you paid. No problem right, I will just return them with my money back guarantee. But when you return to the shop that you brought them from you find an empty storefront or another business there. This scam relies on the tourist not being able to return for one month. The fly-by-nighters...well flew off. The best advice was a large sign in the police waiting room that said: "DO NOT BUY GEMSTONES IN THAILAND"

11bravo "Don't agree with leaving temptation lying around" it's not a case of that. there are times i have had one drink too many and have not remembered getting to the room and putting anything away. i may have used my Video all day and need to charge the battery up ready for the next day, best time to do it? when i'm asleep. i often give the girls my wallet to carry in their bags at night and it stays there until the next morning. i once was very drunk and withdrew 10000 Baht from an ATM late at night and gave it to my girl for safekeeping. in the morning i had no recollection of taking the money out and was totally surprised when she handed it over to me along with the receipt. i'm not saying any of them were never tempted to take anything and may well have done, but if they did i never knew. but then again i do have one story involving theft, but that comes later. but more to the point, where i stay has no safe in the room so i have no choice. but most of the girls are friends,i try to treat them well, look after them to the best of my ability and pay well. i rarely take a stranger back to my room, but if they are then they are normally friends of friends. i know where they work and i know the boss and they know i know the boss.
