I don't obsess about TGs because they are cheap. I can afford western p4p. I obsess about TGs because they simply are the best, and the GFE is at least 65 percent of it.
As for tipping to smooth the way, absolutely. The trick is always finding the right balance, and not to sweat it if you get it wrong sometimes. Having fun is more important 
And Valetta, I agree about the bellboys and pushy mamasans, but I am more forgiving of the former.

I've come back from the airport in a taxi many times, and generally round up by 20 or 30B, as I know they wait a while at the airport (generally, I just round up to the nearest note).
Now and then I feel generous, maybe because they've driven a clever way, or I've had them not take the highway due to it being the middle of the night, and I've tipped 50 or 100B. The interesting thing is, when I tip 20 or 30 they're invariably very happy and full of thanks: when I tip above 50, they do that thing Thais do when they think you're a freaking idiot: look offended, or pissed off, or just accept it sullenly, or some other 'you just haven't got a clue, have you?' behaviour.
The same I have found generally. (Regarding whether THais expect tips, I would say: not so much in Thai places, where you give maybe 20B extra, but in tourist places, sure they do). If you act within the scope of how a Thai would act, you are generally reacted to as they would to a Thai, but if you act out of that behaviour pattern, you're seen as a Farang, and, therefore, scum.

Quim,perhaps you would still monger in Thailand if there was no difference in the cost of Thai P4P compared to the West,but I doubt that many other members of this Forum would,at least with anything like the frequency they now do.
Like you I love the GFE I receive from Thai girls,and for myself I can say it is the sole reason I keep returning to Thailand year after year.
Yet I see for you the GFE is only 65% of what makes Thai P4P worthwhile.
I am curious to know what for you makes up the remaining 35%?

Yes, I would follow up by saying that most of us -- at least I -- love Thai Girls not just because the money we are willing to spend goes a much longer way in LOS than anywhere else, but because we also get a much more exalted experience out of it. The TG has this talent of making me feel like her prince of that hour, she knows I like her to be my absolute slave, she will even roleplay my fantasy (as a gogo girl did last year, after extracting my secret fantasy). She yelped with shock and called me terrible but the angel laughed and volunteered to debauch with me.
As for that bellboy, in my view, it is better to pay him his expected 20 baht and be forgotten rather than not pay and risk becoming a marked man in some way  .

Valetta, I just meant that there is also no denying that TGs are blessed with their unfair share of beauty and perfect, sexy bodies. And they are, quite simply, fun to party with too. That all the other sanuk that goes along with p4p in LOS. So, yes, the GFE that can be had is a big part of it, but it's more complex than that of course.
As Kaymanx suggests, and as Buttman well knows, it is also about living out your fantasies. You can be anything you want in LOS. Buddha bless the place. 
I have nothing further to add on tipping, but this is all good info above for someone wondering how it works in LOS.
