well, just put a chart of the Aussi dollar overlayed on maybe the composite of commodities from 2001 to now and they will be highly correlated....so guys, what happens when commodities go down in price?

Ummmm... gee, I don't know, the Aussi keeps going up and commodities go down? no smart guy, they go down together.... That's what you are seeing right now...... next shoe to drop will be your housing market..... everyone knows it is very overheated, but when you see commodities roll over like this:

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/commodities/futures/

The aussi and the Aussi economy is in trouble... I guess you could call it a leading indicator... once the current contracts are excersised and your producers have to either sell at current prices or forward prices (which will even be lower) you can say hello to lower earnings, lower housing prices and higher unemployment.....

Get a grip man.

Your way of the mark- firstly unlike America and their housing Boom- and bust

Australia has a very tightly controlled Borrowing sector-

The emergence of Australian banks has resulted in additional attention from global investors particularly those that are based in the US, and the big four expect that there will be increased equity participation from foreign institutional investors.

Westpac says it has already seen an increase in foreign exchange transactions and says it has witnessed a material increase in the number of $1 billion plus transactions it has executed on behalf of clients.

In terms of market capitalisation, Westpac is now the world’s ninth largest bank in front of CBA which is ranked 15, NAB ranked 17 and ANZ ranked at number 19. The big four now rank ahead of behemoths such as Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Barclays.

Secondly, Australia is a highly traded currency so billions are parked here for the very reason you question-

Stability-

The resources Boom and the so called contracts you speak of are massive- so big new infra- structure has to be made to accomadate the sales like ports on the top end-

You can not find one economist that sees a bleak future in the next ten - fifteen years in that area- we expect a strong rebound in June quarter GDP based on increased net exports, equipment investment, engineering (mainly resource-related) construction, a further rise in dwelling investment and stock rebuilding.

Over 2011/12 and into 2012/13, overall economic growth will strengthen, the key drivers of the recovery will be mining investment and increased mining production, with further increases in agricultural output also likely. The strengthening activity in these two sectors will then gradually broaden into the ‘sheltered’ domestic sectors which supply inputs and services. Offsetting the mining boost will be the high A$ impacts on trade-exposed sectors and Government cutbacks to spending to make room for the resources boom.

The outlook for Australia Came in at 2nd globally in terms of ability to cope with another GFC-

Its worth noting low unemployment- low debt-

Americans have obviously the reverse-

Infact why the Australia dollar rose sharply is The USA problems see investors seek safer places to dump cash-

Even though our economy is small Australia is in the Top seven traded currencies

Clearly Australia like all markets are vunerable to global down turns but the predicted dire warning you preach is anot shared- (here)

The banks and Housing is tight and so waht defaults the USA experienced cant happen here- Though Borrowing will slow-

Or economy is tightly regulated "meaning" housing loans are only approved to applicants with a 10% deposit and strong income and credit history-

This is why we have a low default rate Globally-

Dont also under estimate demand for resources they continue to climb sharply - there is not let up for the forseeable future-

Infact even it were to halve (which it wont and more likely to triple) in the next ten years - the sector is so massive and our population so small it wont crush us at all-

Australia also has a very good stable economy with the key word "low" debt -

If you seek work in Australia you can with just 5% unemployment (half of whom dont want to work or fall under the mental health act like Jingjo)

So although the dollar may fall again- which is what exporters and reatilers here want anyway- the over all shape of the future is good-

And in essence the thread is truthful still that the parties in Thailand continue due to its strength-

At the end of the day its not a pissing match or dick measuring competition-

But its still clear the Australian dollar is valued and prized more than a USA dollar-

As is our credit Rating

That for a small population of 21 million with low debt and low umemployment is my friend comforting-

You will find in 12 months your chicken little predictions will still be somewhere coming - while more than likely (as is the on going case) your own country further decends into the mire
