I always end up with at least a couple thousand baht at the end of a trip. I save it and bring it for next trip. Airport exchange is dreadful in every country and if I didntl have baht, I would take BK's advice and only get enough for cab fare.
I believe there are late night money exchange booths around town. I remember changing late night near Soi Cowboy one time.

I normally stay near Nana area, so I would use the money changers in the middle eastern soi (Suk Soi 3/1). They open till late, past midnight, which is really convenient.

32.85 at many joints today... It's been on a slow but steady increase for the past month or so.. Not long ago it was below 31 so this is a welcomed change. Not like when we use to get 40 but I'll take what I can get

The rate is sitting at 33 to the dollar right now, Friday after closing, with lots of foreign investment going out of the country, given the favorable investment opportunities in the US in the last two weeks.
2 1/2 weeks ago the rate was at 31.27, and going down, then an interest rate increase was announced in the US, and the rate started going up as foreign money moved out of Thailand, taking two weeks to move up to 32, and then this last week it just broke 33.
If the US increases interest rates again soon, the rate will go above 34 sometime next month. The new US tarrifs are affecting the rate, along with interest rate increases. The strong US economy is the biggest factor though.

Central bank steps in to slow baht slide
The Bank of Thailand has moved to curb the baht's rapid retreat against the greenback as the local currency hit a nine-month low.
The central bank has sporadically taken action against the currency's weakness by selling the US dollar to smooth out the baht's movement after it depreciated at a faster pace, lowering foreign reserves, said Bank of Thailand governor Veerathai Santiprabhob.
He said the move is normal practice for the central bank.
The baht, which was the second-best performing currency in Asia last year, depreciated around 2% so far this year to 33.26 to the dollar, compared with an almost 7% decline in India's rupee, a 6.5% weakness in the Philippines' peso, a 5.8% drop in the Indonesian rupiah and almost a 5% fall in the Korean won.
