Quote: from Mr Alan on 11:15 am on Dec. 8, 2006 Yep. And those Boeing jets keep rolling off the assembly line headed to foreign nations, while Airbus is in deep trouble.
It's really hard to not call you 'ignorant' when you make comments like the above. As Thaidup has already pointed out, Boeing jets are rolling of the assembly line, because they are actually building them, while Airbus has only managed to produce delays and empty promises. Mind you, I feel that the Airbus product is in many ways a better plane than Boeing's (especially when it comes to the interior design, which generally sucks for Boeing), but this is an issue of competence versus incompetence. MrAlan really needs to stop hanging out with Hermie, and get off his conspiracy leanings.

mel, I hope all is well down under... I am sure that you know we "septics" tip because of the wage laws in the states....I paid my way thru the last 2 years of college by my tips bartending at a great pub and then went on to open a couple establishments myself... barmen/women and waitresses/waiters only get paid $2.25 an hour...as opposed to the normal minimum wage 6 bucks I think.. as I am writing this I cant get the opening scene of "Resevoir Dogs" out of my mind...those that have scene that awsome flick know what I am talking about back on topic....my wife is pissed about the 35.whatever exchange rate as her 1K a month is costing her mom and dad about 3000baht from when she started sending back....she feels its all the new governments fault..... cheers, atl

Mel, Menial staff in the US get less than minimum wage and that is an accepted normal part of daily American life because of its history of widespread slavery. These were the tasks previously performed by slaves and the abolition of slavery did not remove the stigma associated with this type of work. Hence the acceptance of today's discriminatory laws by the general population. The tipping structure as practiced today in the US is a carry over from the slavery era. The master rewarding or denying sustenance according to his whim. An extra ladle of mush or a beating with a hickory. Despite the power of the US economy it has never been able to really impose its tipping and wage laws in most other countries because most do not have a history of slavery there to establish the needed prejudices against service staff. Origins are funny things.

Guys you talk about tipping in the USA,, I have no problem with that,,,, I have a problem when that habit spreads to other countries and adds unnecessary expense. Australia has a minimum wage around $15 an hour so we rarely tip, minimum wage is MINIMUM for ALL. Anyway I really should stop bitching as I often tip ( in small amounts in Thailand to the waitresses / bell boy etc.) But expectations of tips in what was not long ago a "Non tipping nation" is a step backwards in my opinion. I very rarely tip in other stuations unless the service is OUTSTANDING!!!. Cheers Mel

Crying about the exchange rate?? Yes, I'm a yank and proud of it. Did get some Yen and HK dollars before flying here (spend 5 days in Hong Kong and I'm based out of Tokyo, 300 U.S. worth each........weak science project. Will go to a money exchange today and see how the numbers work out. Yes, could of done this on line but more interesting to see how the money exchangers will screw me at Nana Plaza. I did have 25K baht left over from my last trip (40-1) in Sep06. Makes me feel a little better.

It is really hard not to call you are moron, when you make comments that indicate you have no idea what I said. True, there are problems with Airbus are related to the delay of their new larger planes, but Boeing is killing Airbus on the new sales of the older plane designs. The reason for this is simple: the lower US dollar makes the Boeing planes much cheaper than Airbus which is sold in Euros. Or, if Airbus matches the Boeing prices, then they take huge losses. There is no conspiracy, it is simple economics (in this case foreign exchange rate, which is the subject of this thread).
