What on earth is the deal with all this long-distance sponsoring? I just can't figure this out. You're sending money that you will never see again to a girl you will probably rarely if ever see again so that you can get some sort of warm+fuzzy feeling and pretend you're both something that neither of you really are.
Now, even I know people who have found real love in Thailand, but not with working girls and not from across the ocean. Whatever you do, don't send these girls money. If they really want to be with you they'll get their act together without one dime from you. Otherwise the relationship probably was never meant to be.
Once you're married and/or living together and you know it's real then by all means go ahead and help out her family back home, but until then you're just deluding yourself. If a long-term relationship is not what you're looking for, then donate the dough to a charity instead. If you're really doing it all simply because of your goodwill, you won't mind not witnessing the result. Am I wrong?
For those of you who are really on top of things, or already learned your lesson the first time, please take no offense. For the rest of you, may I suggest you either never become a sponsor or at the very least stop the payments now?
If you must, maybe offer your "sponsored" girl a US$5,000+ reward for getting herself on the paying end of a real career path and not one penny before then. If nothing ever comes of it, neither of you lost out.
Sorry to go off like that, but sponsoring girls you don't *really* know, from a world away just seems like the one of the least sophisticated things I've ever heard of.

I know you're fairly new to the brotherhood brother Pop and you probably are still reading through some of the old threads ( I hope ) to learn a lot of valuable info from the brothers who came before you ( no pun intended ), and maybe you haven't reached this one yet so I thought I would bring it to your attention.
Please do yourself a very good service by reading each and every post on each and every page and then come back and ask why. I think you'll be surprised at the number of success stories you'll hear about and it'll give you a chance to get to know the 2 brothers who have written the book on why long distance relationships with Thai ladies, whether P4P girl or good Thai girl, can, and does sometimes work out.
Brother Zzzz and Ms. Z are an absolute inspiration to most of us on this forum.
As for brother Balls B, mere words do not do this man justice and any negative remarks about Ms. Balls B, who many of us consider a true hero for the way she has faced, and surpassed the challenges life has put before Ýher, could bring about untold horrors the likes of which have never been visited upon this earth  .
Rare jems do definitely exist in LOS. Finding them is quite a challenge to say the least, but if you happen to be lucky enough to find one wouldn't you want to do as much as you possibly can to help that jem to shine?
Your views on the subject are entirely yours to make and will be respected no matter what. Just take the time to visit the other side of the subject. You may not change your mind but at least you will have added a few new friends to your list. Say hi to them for me. Peace

Yeah, there are some real success stories, and I'm sincerely happy for those who have beaten the odds. I just think that for general advice, it's probably best to suggest that the average tourist would do far more good by providing monetary funds to those who are better suited at distributing it. People who really know how Thailand functions, financially, politically, and culturally. People who know where the money would do the most good.
If that Thai sweetheart you found were truly on the path to real success, then it seems rather unlikely she'd be hanging around MP's and GG's. Sure, she may only have that one difficult expense that keeps her from reaching the next level, but I doubt it.
Most of us are fairly good people, but probably not as selfless as we may proclaim. We're acting off selfish intentions even when we don't realize it. I'm thinking that by focusing on the 90% of long-distance failures out there, we're simply acting more responsibly than focusing on the 10% of success stories, which may only provide a false hope for the majority.
After all, if we were really as good hearted as we sometimes portray ourselves, we'd probably be busy breaking our backs in the peace core or whatever helping to bring clean water to a remote village or even cleaning up BKK. But I've never done anything like that.
I'm just an average Joe like most of you. I'm looking to get my rocks off and I'm looking for a good time. If I lived in or near Thailand I'd probably take this issue a lot less seriously, but what's ironic is that the expats seem to be far better at keeping a tight lid their funds while the true farangs are sending cash left and right. What the heck is that about?
Maybe I'm just missing some all-purpose post that explains why this is, but until I find it I'm sticking to my opinion that it's just good sense to view sponsorship with a very cautious eye and take what you hear at face value.
Best of luck to those who can prove me wrong, really.

Let me get this straight: guys send money to girls that they've known for a few weeks max, while their "love" is banging the highest bidder, all so what...they can leave their home country, career, family, friends to live in a country where they will always be considered "foreigners". Sounds like a deal!!! I'm always surprised how willing guys are to give up their whole lives for "special" hookers. Sorry, you can't trully know a person in just a few weeks, after a while the perfect girls become not so perfect, everyone has good and bad qualities but these guys can only see the good. My advice: invest your money in How to Dating materials, date women in your own country, gain some experience and confidence, and stop letting women tell you what to do wussie boy!!! Then you can have the best of both worlds: Chicks at home and fun party girls in BKK, not only are you a stud but you don't have to move your whole life and start over

Other examples do exist when talking about sending money.
What Ýa man does in LOS is HIS BUSINESS , until the advice is asked.
