Looking to purchase some gold - for myself, not any GBs - on my next trip.
Been looking at coinage (the Krugerrand having been found to be the best deal, or small raw bullion.
Obviously, I have no intention of just waltzing into any old gold dealer off Pattaya's Beach Rd. to get any, so I was wondering:
- Has anyone bought gold coins or bullion for investment purposes?
- Is there such a market in Thailand?
- What's the quality of Thai gold?
- Where's the best place to purchase it?

If you are considering gold coins as investment I would think that your hiome market would offer you the most competitive price and the safest option.
There are no bargains to be had on investment gold coinage such as the Krugerrands, Sovereigns, or Philharmonicas (as well as other Austrian gold investment coins).
If you get offered an excellent value on such coins, something is wrong.
The only reasonable cost you can possibly try to control, is the amount of sales tax or service charges you may have to pay on your purchase, and your storage costs (safe deposit box).

i think the best way to buy phisicaly gold is in bars (oz, 100gr. etc). for coins you pay even a higer primium on the gold price (compered to bars).

Gold chains are a far better investment from LOS. 23 carat gold is real easy to sell in the states at a considerable mark-up. The china town area in BKK is a good area to shop for these.
Also from my experience it is much better to buy coins rather than bars. Coins will be accepted everywhere gold is traded, whereas bars are always suspect. Krugerands are not traded everywhere. I personally like Canadian maple leafs.
Again, 23carat gold chains are a far better investment from LOS. 24carat bullion is a world commodity traded at spot price + commision. Only deal you will ever get is a lower commision on volume buying, and selling, no matter were you are in the world.

Thai Ruby's are a great investment. Diamonds are more expensive in Thailand as they are imported.
I agree Koolbreeze, gold chains are a great investment if you are looking to move them when the gold price goes up. But right now, I do not think is a good time to buy. Gold prices are a little high right now for my taste.
