Been a while since my last trip and cant seem to remember what I brought with me last time. Am I going to be able to cash Canadian travellers cheques in Thailand or do I have to buy US cheques in order to get cash in LOS. Dont want to pay the conversion twice. Thanks guys.

Bring a couple of ATM cards with you and just visit the cash machines. Simply the best way IMHO. There are ATM's at almost all the 7/11's and banks everywhere. To me, it's the only way to go. One is the one you use and the other is a backup in case you lose/break the first one. I keep one in the safe and the other is the only thing in my wallet except for a few baht and maybe one credit card. I also carry it in my front pocket. Much harder to have that pulled from your pants if you are worried about a pickpocket.

Thanks for the link Dr. love. But I am still unclear. If I go to the currency exchanges, used to use the one outside the Landmark hotel, will they cash these travellers cheques from Canadian to Baht?

I can safely say all banks will honor your CAD cheques.... just look at the rates of any bank... if it doesn't list CAD goto the next one... many banks in that area.

don't hold AE travelers cheques too long. had some left over from my oct. '06 trip and tried to cash them in las vegas last month. it took over 1 hour for the casino to validate the cheques and decide to cash them.
won on the proceeds and took great pleasure redeeming my chips.
agree with LastSurvivor - ATM cards are the way to go. no charge at my bank as long as you have a CD on deposit.

i will take a closer look at the next batch of TC's I get for a Nov. trip, I didn't know they had a expiration date, I take both, TC's & ATM card

They DON'T have expiration dates, but TIT, and they worry about taking "old" TC's sometimes.
You can still cash 'em at home.

Some banks may take extra time to verify an old TC, but the TC companies encourage you to keep them as long as you want. That is how they make their money, by investing the float (the cash they have between the time the TC is purchased and when it is cashed).
A few years ago I think that AMX TC's had an average float of $6 billion, but that may have gone down a bit in recent years.
